This hotel sucks. I booked the room while there was a spring sale on its official website. However, when I finished my payment by card, I did not receive any confirmation email from the hotel. I found it weird, so I checked with the hotel immediately. The front desk lady told me that there was no booking record under my name and asked me to make a reservation again. But as I resumed my booking, the option with the spring sale was gone, causing the same room type to be more pricy. I thus decided to book the room in another hotel, which was cheaper.
Unbelievably, while I was staying in another hotel, which was my second choice, I just found out that this hotel took away my money from my credit card. I contacted the hotel at once, yet the front desk guy was being very rude and refused to check the booking record for me. Then, I mailed the hotel to talk about the payment issue, yet I still haven't received any reply from them.
To make the whole thing look even like a scam is that I've checked my mailbox millions of times, and none of the mails, including the junk mails, were from them. Nevertheless, they still used my personal information which I provided on the day I made the reservation to form a booking record and a confirmation email, presenting them to my credit card company and claiming that it was legitimate for them to charge me.
Since I might never be able to get my money back from them, this is the only thing I can do, that is, to stop the next person from falling victim...
Read moreVery nice, very modern. I hope I'm not damning with faint praise when I say this felt like staying at a Mariott in the US.
The building was well laid out with lots of spacious rooms overlooking nicely manicured grounds. In order to achieve this they had to be a few blocks on the far side of the train station, such that every time I returned I felt like "It should be here? Oh wait no, another 2 blocks". But that's hardly bad, especially if you prefer a more suburban setting as I do. It was only a short walk to that station, and from there buses to anywhere in the city. The attention to detail was top-notch.
Solidly the best breakfast of the 4 places I stayed on my trip. (See attached picture for an incomplete example. I ate well.) Refrigerator available on request. Excellent wifi. Clean comfortable room. Nice looking restaurant downstairs although I didn't eat there because I didn't travel to Austria to eat Italian food. Also you can buy a Salzburg card right at the front desk for all-in-one bus transport and admittance, which was convenient and a savings.
The only real downside I had is that the walls are pretty thin. It's not a youth hostel type of place and not downtown, so there weren't late night parties or anything to be disruptive. But I did literally hear someone snoring next door. Hardly a dealbreaker but it did surprise me. Were I to stay in Salzburg again I might experiment with a different location just to see. But I'd also be happy to...
Read moreOK so I have to say we did stay at the Hampton Hilton Hotel Stanstead before arriving at this hotel in Salzburg. So we were spoilt before we got here. The hotel is ok, we stayed in room 309. The room was small to medium in size with a very slow working air con, but it did work. It does need updating as the décor is looking dated. The balcony is clean but a little scruffy looking and the view was not the best, you could see the mountains in the distance but the rest was the backs of houses oh and the garden. We ate at the hotel on the Friday night and I have to say it was delicious and really good value for money. The staff are friendly and helpful. We tried to eat there again on Sunday but found out the hotel bar and restaurant are closed on a sunday, so don't expect to get even a drink. There were no drinks in the room ie. tea or coffe, I did ask for a kettle which they did provide. The coffee is 3.50 and breakfast 19.50 which I think is a bit steep, when you can go out and get a coffee and a croissant for around 6 euros. It is a good 30 min walk to the restaurants and sights of Salzburg so make sure you don't mind walking if...
