The overall stay was good, according to the expectations of the international brand Marriot. Room was spacious and clean, breakfast was fair enough, even though it did not change from day to day, and the staff tried to help in whatever request was made. Our check-out experience, though, was a complete disaster. We stayed at the hotel for 11 nights, and we were literally retained by almost one hour on the basis of the claim, that 4 towels during our stay were not returned. At the moment of check-out, all towels were left in the room, which was also confirmed by the front office staff. Upon the question from my side, how this could be, the front office staff said that the missing towels were apparently not collected in one of the previous days of the stay. The issue escalated further once I asked for a specific report of when these towels were apparently handed over to us or were not collected, since the towels were strictly used every day and exchanged 1:1 by house-keeping staff, according to standard procedures in every hotel. After waiting another 15 minutes, the front office staff could not provide this information, but insisted again that their records showed 4 missing towels. After waiting for almost one hour, while the staff was making useless internal investigations that did not provide any further result or help, the front office manager proposed to block on my credit card a certain amount of money to cover the cost of the towels that they claim were not returned, and continue an investigation on the next day. I strictly refused that option, as all towels were strictly left in the room without any exception, and they could not provide any proof of the daily towels report. Honestly speaking, I also did not want to continue this shameful topic on the following days, there is more important things to care about than this mismanagement from hotel staff.
This is the first time I have been treated in a miserable way in a hotel check-out in such a dimension from an international brand name like Marriot. To close the discussion, as I was already in delay for an appointment, we paid the front office manager 60 AZN to cover the cost of the towels that they had lost somewhere, and left the office.
Needless to say that this shameful experience at the end of an 11 nights stay will have consequences in the sense that the brand Marriot and its affiliates will never be an option for me and my partners in the future neither for business nor private travel. There are enough alternatives out there on the market. Marriot,...
Read moreCourtyard by Marriott in Baku in Nizami District on Quarter Junction of M Fuzuli & A, Alimardan has a Palace Like Exterior & sits over Looking Fuzuli Garden is located perfectly just 1.5km ( about 15 to 20 minutes of walk ) away from Nizami Street the center of attention of Baku & the famous Fountain Square.
But has its own issues like you will need to carry your own luggage ( a big disappoint & then you start questing yourself what more unpleasant surprise to expect but fortunately very few ) Marriott management please look in to this again it's not mentioned on any site official or on any booking sites very baaaaaaad one feels cheated.
They offer 3 types of room. I recommend higher floors anything above 3rd floor but surely the Garden View . Front desk staff seems to be new so you might get mixed experience, most of the international fights arrive early so the check in time of 3pm is not a good idea ( this is my personal view ) as the day go waste.
The restaurant has modern interior the bar offers fine spirits & cocktails , the seating is cleaverly arranged to maintain privacy. ( Kudos to the designer) with separate rest rooms for him & her.
The breakfast is limited & repitative which makes long stays a little boring & spread is limited & basic, Vegetarians will find it difficult. The the staff here is great.
Lobby is ok & not that intresting. A more seating would make attractive as it's a tourist place. 4 lifts makes its Hassel free movement a big plus.
Rooms are basic interiors & so are the bathrooms but do serve ther purpose. ( I am referring to Kings Room here )
The superior rooms are big but lacks furniture. ( I felt it's incomplete a proper searing would make more sence ) sone rooms have balcony.
All types of room comes with Mini Bar, Safes, Kettle tea & coffee, Ironing board , a bathrobe & slippers. House keeping staff is excellent ( No dought there)
Room service is poor ( does not go with Marriott Brand that's for sure )
My take :- Location 4 Stars Front Desk Staff 3 & half Stars Manager 4 & half Stars House keeping 5 Stars Room Service 1 Star Hygiene 4 Star Restaurant 3 & half Star Over all 3 & Half stars
Will I recommend Surely with Expectation from Marriott Management will correct there short comings. As the property has more...
Read moreFirst visit to Baku and we took time to select what we thought would be the best hotel for us. The Courtyard is a beautiful building, in an amazing location making it walking distance to all key areas within Baku City and with a beautiful park with some wonderful cafes right opposite.
But that's where the good things end....
Front desk are very helpful, as they should be but after paying doe an upgraded room we where booked into one at the back of the hotel in the furthest corner overlooking an active building site. The room was dirty, the bathroom dirty and overall very disappointing.
After discussing this with the hotel they moved us to a standard room but refused to refund the upgrade cost saying we had to take that up with the travel agency!
The standard room to be fair is nice but its not what we paid for.
The worst part of our stay is the breakfast, its not worth paying for it, you are better taking a short 10 minute walk into the old city or Nazami street every morning for an excellent and better priced option.
The dinning area is big but not big enough for the number of guests, getting a table can take 10 to 15 minutes waiting and watching for people to leave.
Eventually when you do get a table, the food is just sub standard with a very basic and below average selection. Virtually no fresh fruit, a couple of cereal options, rock hard pastries and a very sald looking salad counter.
The egg station is the busiest area with one chef catering for probably 200 plus guests, you can imagine the wait time and chaos that results in.
They have a fresh coffee machine that comes with a long queue of caffeine craving guests, once your tuen comes it turns to disappointment when the coffee comes out its cold and as strong as a 2 year old in a gym.
They have additional filtered coffee and tea in large heated drums.... that are always empty!
Sadly, great location, great staff, okay rooms but...
