Amazing customer service!
My husband and I booked 1 night at this hotel for a long layover in La Paz. We accidentally left a cell phone with all of our trip photos on it in the back of the cab from the airport. All we had to go on was a photo I took of the top signage on the cab. The photo didn't have all the relevant information to track the cab, but Jose was like our own detective. He made a bunch of calls and found another cab driver who knew he driver of our cab. They had their driver Freddy wait to try and meet up with him at the airport all day for us. Then Milly helped in the evening shift. It took all day and many calls but eventually they were able to call the cab driver and he dropped off our phone for us at the airport where we were able to collect it. They really took on the mission of helping us get our phone back and kept us updated on the status. The phone could have been replaced but not all the photos from our vacation to visit my sister-in-law in Peru. Those were priceless. We offered the cab driver a lot of money to meet up with us but he returned the phone to the airport police for free. What could have been a terrible end to our vacation instead had a happy ending thanks to all the help from Jose, Milly, and Freddy who went above and beyond to help us.
We only slept in the hotel for a few hours in the day, so it is hard to comment on the rest other than to say that the hotel was pretty and very clean. The bed was comfortable and the management offered to change out any of the pillows if they were not the right firmness for us. I would definitely stay here again and I feel so lucky that I booked with this hotel or I am certain we would have lost our cell phone and all our trip photos permanently.
We also ate lunch at the restaurant down stairs which had a pretty...
Read moreMy stay at the La Casa de Piedra Hotel was one of the highlights of my month-long trip in South America. I stayed in the matrimonial suite for two nights. The room was huge, with a generous size bathroom and seating area. The bed was very comfortable, and I loved all the decoration and charm of the entire building. The staff could not have been kinder, and I have to give a special shout out to Jorge whose excellent English skills and kind nature were immensely helpful in getting me around in La Paz.
On a negative note, the bathroom just not have a shower. The bathtub is huge, but it’s a bit awkward when you need to wash her hair. Also, the hot water comes and goes as does the water pressure. The room was absolutely beautiful, but because it is located on the street side, it’s annoying this is a myth. You could hear everything going on in the street down below as well as the plaza next door. It’s worth it to stay in the room, but just know that you’re going to have a lot of noise until everything dies down around 11 PM. Also, weekends bring out the party animals so expect lots of noise then. The breakfast was not great at all, though they made an effort at presenting a nice buffet. In comparison, the restaurant below the hotel is excellent and I ate there two nights for dinner. I would definitely stay at La Casa de Piedra again and recommend it to any...
Read moreThe hotel, located in a colonial, period property set around two fine patios, is almost totally unexpected from the busy street (a busy street that runs into central Plaza San Francisco less than 100 m. farther down). The name says it well and invites for exploration, whether in the common areas or in the rooms that (during my multiple stays I used two) are different, yet spacious, carefully and finely furnished, respectively appropriately endowed. The massive wood furniture and little details (like the glazed ceramic inserts) add to the charm and help recreate an otherwise bygone era atmosphere. While being in the city center can mean some street buzz, most of it does not reach the sleeping quarters. Staff could not have been more kind, attentive and friendly, whether at my first arrival (at nearly 4 AM) or anytime I needed anything. The communication with the manager was prompt and effective. For breakfast there is buffet service and extras can be added. When all is said and done, a recommended place to be for those that wish to have an authentic experience of old La Paz while always being centrally located. And a big muchas gracias to...
