This is a cockroach infested hotel in the red light district used by the older men to entertain their prostitutes.||||The New Season Riverside Hotel is described as a modern property within walking distance of key attractions. Personally I would describe it as a out dated, run down, cockroach infested flee pit located in the centre of the red light district which caters for elderly white men and their prostitutes (there is a notice in each room stating prostitutes are welcome as long as they sign in at reception and are not under age)! We were met by the owner who could not be bothered to welcome us or look up from his computer other than to demand our passport’s. The room was dirty with long black hairs everywhere, including on the sheets. We paid extra for a window. We got a window with glass but when we opened the dirty stained curtains we found the ‘window’ was bricked up on the outside. There was also no fridge or garden as described in the description on Booking.com. Throughout the night we had to listen to the other occupants entertaining their guests and rats running in the void between the ceiling and the floor above. As soon as we turned the lights out at night to get a good nights sleep we found our room (105 located directly above the hotel kitchen) was infested with cockroaches which crawled across the bed as we lay there. We photographed and caught several under glasses. There was no one on duty at night to complain to so we spent the whole night awake sat up in bed with the lights on keeping cockroaches off us. The following morning, when I complained about the window, no fridge, no garden and the cockroaches the manager just laughed. Later that morning I spoke directly to the owner who also laughed. When I insisted that it was not a laughing mater he started to shout at me and became threatening and aggressive. He made some excuse about the fault being with Booking.com who had overbooked his hotel. We saw few other guests so did not believe the hotel was fully booked and did not see what this had to do with the cockroach infection. We had booked for 3 nights, when we said we wanted to leave early, the owner refused to refund the remaining 2 nights. I attempted to cancel the remaining 2 nights on Booking.com but the cancelation policy meant that we would not receive a refund. In addition to the above, the stairs are used as storage areas for cleaning equipment and rubbish. The only way to access the upper floors is by a small lift. This makes the hotel a 5 storey fire trap. There is a 6 inch gap between the bed and wall so during the night the pillows fall on the floor leaving you without a pillow to sleep on but a ladder for the cockroaches to get at you. I’m in my late 50s and have travelled extensively across Asia This is without doubt the worst hotel I have ever stayed in.||||Unless you are an elderly man down on his luck, looking to entertain your prostitute on the cheap and don’t mind cockroaches for company I would avoid...
Read moreWe arrived at the hotel around 12:00 p.m., which was before the official check-in time. The owner kindly allowed us to check in early and said we could leave our bags in the room, asking us to return around 2:00 p.m. after the room had been cleaned.
However, when we returned at 2:00 p.m. (the official check-in time), the room was still not ready. We were told that cleaning was still ongoing. When we came back again later, the reason changed, they said we could enter the room to rest, but two maintenance workers needed to be inside, as they claimed the only way to access another room was through ours.
This explanation felt suspicious. We decided to leave again and return later. When we finally got access to the room, it appeared clean but had a strong, foul odor, similar to a drainage smell. We had no choice but to stay. I ended up cleaning the floor myself using dishwashing liquid and placed tissues soaked in dish soap into the air conditioning vent to improve the smell. That helped a little. Unfortunately, the water system (shower, faucet, etc.) was also not functioning properly.
More concerning was that we did not feel safe during our stay. The owner made an inappropriate and uncomfortable comment suggesting we should stop having children, and also remarked that our eldest son is handsome. This came across as intrusive and unsettling, especially since we never sought any financial help or support from him or he is not even our parents (and offending us that seems we do not do family planning), he simply gossiped and overstepped boundaries. His behavior reminded us of the kind of people who support population control or in other words depopulation, and it was especially disturbing considering current reports about kidnappings, forced labor, and organ trafficking. Combined with the suspicious claim about maintenance access through our room, which we later confirmed made no sense, as there were no visible connections between rooms, it made us feel very uneasy.
On top of all this, even though they delayed our check-in, they were very strict about check-out. Guests are required to leave before 12:00 p.m., or they will be charged extra fees.
The only positive thing about this hotel is the low price. However, it’s simply not worth it. Although it’s near the riverside, there’s nothing special about the location. The area around the hotel is not family-friendly, with most nearby businesses being bars, massage parlors, and drinking spots, not appropriate for children.
Overall, we do not recommend this hotel, especially for families or travelers who value safety, cleanliness, and a respectful...
Read moreThis place should be called a guesthouse and not a hotel. This is a budget accommodation co-located with an Indian restaurant downstairs. Don’t expect too much from this place or fully trust the pictures posted in their advertisement as elaborated below:Dislikes:(1) The reception is manned by a grouchy Indian boss who is neither helpful or friendly and his attitude sucks (eg. when I told him my room bar fridge is not working, he said there is nothing wrong and I just don’t know how to turn the fridge on)(2) The lift lobby have a strong cockroach stench (3) Room and furnitures are old and the bed sheets and bath towels look overused with obvious stains.(4) The room power tripped 3x during my 2 nights stay when showering —> likely due to faulty instant water heater.(5) The Wifi signals keep dropping and sometimes lagging (6) The junior hotel staffs don’t really understand or speak simple English (7) No bath or shampoo gels are provided and the toothbrushes are of very inferior quality(8) No complimentary coffee provided in room except 2-3 “naked” tea bags (already taken out of package)(9) Room bar fridge not working properly and turns off by itself after a few minutes Likes:(1) Great location beside the river and near to many street foods, eateries, night market and night life with girly pubs all within walking distance., (2) Budget accommodation with a reasonable room size and attached toilet, costing less than USD 20/night (3) Aircon is cold and hot water showers still ok(4) Quiet environment as my room has no windowsConclusion: I would never recommend this place for fussy or discerning travellers, but for budget conscious tourists who really don’t mind putting up with all the ** I mentioned, for a cheaper accommodation.I will rather pay a bit more and find a better hotel than this crappy accommodation, if I ever return to Phnom...
