This is a hotel for a campus. The keycard envelope displays "Proceeds from your visit help support the creative potential of artists." I'm reviewing it in the context against other hotels in Banff. My rating doesn't consider the view; I consider every place in Banff to have a great view and a great location. Since the dining and fitness/recreation are in a disconnected separate building, there's a lot of outside walking needed which could be a problem for people with mobility issues and of course, when it's really cold outside. The toilet paper and facial tissue are institutional. There is no air conditioning. There are two hiking trails directly adjacent to the property. When is the hoodoos trail and the other is the tunnel mountain trail. The hoodoos trail is quite easy and the tunnel mountain trail is advanced. The room included a blanket as well as a duvet which I really liked because really dislike duvets. The room comes with a fan and a fridge. There is no microwave. Wi-Fi works very well and is free on the property; That is you do not need to be a hotel guest. Being an artist center there is a lot of art around which is great. There are lots of free artistic endeavors to participate in on the property. There is not a lot of parking close to the hotel. The permanent parking is a bit farther away; about double the distance compared to that of normal hotels. There are four 15-minute parking stalls in front of reception. There is free 2-hour parking to the left of the hotel reception (further on). The fitness/recreational facilities are used by the community as well as by the hotel so the cleanliness is as compared to a public facility. The dining area has a cafeteria like feel as it is buffet-based; view is excellent. There is a fine dining area adjacent to the buffet area that is cordoned off. The dining area has limited hours - that is, it's focused around the regular eating times. There is a sandwhich/cafe place that is open throughout though. The hotel has thoughtfully extended outlets caught behind the headboard so they are accessible. Lighting in bathroom could be improved (not very bright), and replaced with LED lighting (higher lumens, less power use). The desk has a recessed power bar which appears that it may be difficult to use with plugs that have transformers built into them (but I didn't try it). I found the hotel to be very quiet. There were no families or party-type folks staying at the hotel during my weekend stay in August. Mostly I think the hotel gets a lot of conference attendees that might stay on after the conference. Very...
Read moreI was here for a professional development retreat. The staff here were extremely helpful and warm. The food was absolutely incredible! Our supper consisted of high quality meal choices and a variety of options for vegans and vegetarians. The roast beef was incredible along with the turkey pot pie, the options for the salad bar, coconut curry basa, roasted apple and rutabaga, thai clams, and breaded calamari. The facilities are exemplary, such as rock climbing, pool, and steam room. The change rooms to the pool were recently renovated and are the cleanest and most neat I've ever seen. I highly recommend this facility for professional retreats, or for vacations where you want a variety of activities and incredible meals to have right at the hotel. I will definitely...
Read moreI was less than impressed with my time here. The rooms are outdated and lacking A/C. The beds uncomfortable. The quality of food has come down from previous stays. The service was lacking as well. I ate several meals without being served a drink. This went for breakfast lunch and dinner. The bar tender at maclab was very rude. He refused to grab us a beer as he had to many orders( that came through after we arrived at the bar). try making five drinks from the machine then open a beer for the people standing in front of you. He didn't appear to be very happy to be at or even have his job. The pool and staff that work there were very nice. And its banff.... the views are lovely wherever you...
