My wife and I were looking for a nice weekend getaway from kids and pets. We booked a room with a jacuzzi at the Sunset Inn. When we got there, it took 20 mins to check in because no one was at the front desk. Once we finally got to the room, we found out that we had made a mistake in booking here. The room was filthy. It looked like it hadn't been fully cleaned in years and the decor looked like it hadn't been updated since the 80s. There was only one ceiling light and the wall switch for it was not on/off but on/on no matter which was you flicked it. The jacuzzi was HUGE but there was insufficient hot water and the water pressure was almost non-existent. The 'hot' water from the tap was cold by the time it was only a few inches deep. Oh, there was also a bag of old beer cans unceremoniously tossed into the bottom of one of the drawers. We wanted to call the front desk, but were surprised to find there was no room phone. My wife walked back to the front office and spoke to the lady there, who (after some convincing) switched us to the room next door.
The second room was slightly better. It looked about a decade newer and the light switches worked the way they should. However, it still looked like it hadn't been fully cleaned in a looooong time. The jacuzzi was almost half the size of the first one, but looked a bit more modern. Also, the water pressure from the faucet was much better, so it filled up quicker. The 'hot' water was still only lukewarm or colder. The other things that were subpar are as follows: thick layer of dust/grime on top shelves, dead bugs on the window sill, one and a half rolls of one-ply toilet paper, cigarette burns in the bedding and stains on the sheets, the hair dryer caught fire, and our bathroom stank of marijuana.
Upon checking out, my wife had to physically wake up the owner, as the office was locked up (at 9:30am!). We had previously paid a $100 deposit on our credit card, but the owner did not know how to work his own system, so he paid our deposit back with a wad of cash from his pyjama pants pocket.
Overall, our romantic weekend getaway at the Sunset Inn will be remembered for a long time. Not good memories, mind you. This was the worst dive I have ever stayed at. It's only saving grace was it's location is within walking distance to the various attractions.
If I could rate 0 out if 5 stars, I would.

Read moreWe stayed at this filthhole this past weekend (September 4-6). Due to mobility restraints and having small kids, I requested a ground floor room but was given a top floor room with 2 FULL beds for all SIX of us (3 adults, 3 kids). When I specifically asked if they were QUEEN beds, I was told yes.
Our room was smelly and mouldy with a broken AC that couldn't be turned down, which circulated the room's stench on full blast working my allergies while being crammed into an uncomfortable rockhard bed with 2 pillows per bed.
On our second day, we were on our way out when we saw the staff changing beds (on observation, I didn't see a mop or bucket or any cleaning supplies or disinfectants) Nonetheless, my daughter requested clean towels. When we returned, 2 clean towels were placed on the sink and the dirty ones left behind. Our bed linens were NOT changed during their rounds.
Today is day 2 of our return from our long weekend trip and due to the unsanitary conditions of Sunset Inn, my 2 year old granbaby and I have fallen ill (the most vulnerable us all).
For $475.00 for 2 nights, we got a smelly, mouldy room with uncomfortable accommodations and possible Covid-19.🤒🤕🤒🤕🤒🤕🤒🤕🤒🤕🤒🤕🤒🤕🤒🤕🤒🤕

Read moreI traveled over 400 km for what was supposed to be a relaxing weekend with friends who came all the way from BC. Unfortunately, upon check-in, we found the room in a poor and unclean condition.
When I addressed the issue with the staff, I was met with an unprofessional and dismissive attitude from a lady who, based on her behavior, seems to be the owner's daughter. Her lack of hospitality knowledge was evident, and rather than offering solutions, she made the situation worse.
This review is meant for the owner: please take the time to teach your staff how to engage with guests in a respectful and professional manner. Hospitality is about making people feel welcome and valued, and this experience was far from that.
I also noticed that my friend's review has been removed, which raises concerns about transparency. It's a shame that such a negative experience is being swept under the rug.
To the staff member involved: I hope you take this as an opportunity for personal growth. Remember, in the hospitality industry, your attitude can make or break the experience for guests. I wish you the best, but I would strongly recommend reevaluating your approach to customer service. And you are in Canada, you are...
