A Serendipitous Discovery in Saskatoon!
What started as a slight hiccup in our plans turned out to be one of those serendipitous moments that remind you the universe has its way of steering things in the right direction. Our original destination was a different restaurant down the street, but, much to our surprise, it was closed. That's how we stumbled upon Thirteen Pies Pizza & Bar, a gem we had no idea existed.
From the moment we stepped in, the vibe of the place took me back to the cool spots I used to frequent in my 30s. There's something about a well-curated atmosphere that sets the stage for a memorable evening, and Thirteen Pies nailed it. The interior, with its downtown loft feel, exudes a cozy yet vibrant ambiance, making it an inviting space for anyone looking to unwind and indulge.
Speaking of indulgence, let's talk about the pizza. To say it was amazing would be an understatement. Each bite was a blend of flavors that danced together in perfect harmony, leaving us eagerly anticipating the next. And, as if by some sort of culinary magic, the leftovers we had the next day seemed to have elevated in taste, achieving what I can only describe as 'next level' deliciousness.
One cannot review Thirteen Pies without tipping their hat to the bartender. Mesmerized would be the right word to describe how we felt watching her craft fancy cocktails with such finesse and efficiency. It was like watching an artist at work, each movement deliberate and each creation a masterpiece.
It's not often you find a place that ticks all the boxes – ambiance, food, and service – but Thirteen Pies does just that. It may not be the largest spot in town, but what it lacks in size, it more than makes up for in character and warmth. I wholeheartedly recommend this place to anyone looking for an exceptional dining experience in Saskatoon. Without a doubt, this won’t be our last visit. Thirteen Pies, see...
Read moreI had heard a lot of good things and encouraged to try this place out. The menu is small and a lot of the items are similar to other styles pizza with different names. It’s fun how they’ve labelled them to be sure. The restaurant is located in an old legislative looking building with no clear signage. I only knew it was there from people walking out with pizza boxes. The environment is chic and dark and there is a bar. The off putting fact is the music. It’s as loud as a night club. You can’t really hear or converse with the person you’re with. It’s heavily overstimulating and if you’re someone with sensory issues this is not the place to be. We had nachos as an appy (they were phenomenal actually but have a lot of bite from the jalapeños), and we ordered a pizza to go as a result of me feeling unsettled with the environment. The wait staff was very understanding and supportive of our decision to leave. They did mention that this restaurant is more intended to be bar like in nature with loud music and it isn’t necessarily any quieter of an experience earlier in the evening or day (we went at 9pm). The pizza quality is however very tasty. Priced probably to reflect the vibe, it’s a nice gourmet experience to be sure but you don’t come here if you’re wanting to be cheap and get any kind of pizza.
I probably won’t come back; but I did appreciate the kind accommodating service & the food quality and taste...
Read moreWhere to start. This place advertises as "New York Style Pizza" my expectations are that the pizza follows a traditional new York style pizza theme. I will rate this place very casually and not go into my opinion of their ridiculous menu that avoids any normal pizza.
Crust: 9.5/10 - this place can make a good pizza dough! There's no taking that away from them. They have perfected new York style pizza dough. Good job!
Cheese: Unfortunately, their selection of cheese mix is not traditional and was way too creamy. There was not the expected cheese pull. The cheese pull is a staple of new York style pizza. The cheese was an enormous let down.
Price: 36$ before taxes for a large (actually medium) is a statement.
Sauce: Tomoato paste-water-salt-cheap garlic powder. These are the flavors I tasted in their sauce for the cheese pizza(which is not a menu item) their sauce was mediocre and made me sad. This was by far the biggest let down of all.
I think this place has the right foundation to make a good pizza. Unfortunately it takes more than just a phenomenal dough to make it out here.
Advice: Overhaul that ridiculous menu and stick to real pies.
Get rid of that creamy cheese and bring back the cheaper cheese that pulls.
Whoever came up with your marinara sauce needs a good shake of the head and should stick to traditional and...
