Simply horrible stay on an otherwise great anniversary trip. They advertise a 24 hour front desk, but it's a WhatsApp number that you need to contact after hours and only responds during certain hours. We arrived at 9 PM, rang the bell for 10 minutes and then had to call the WhatsApp number after which a guy called Rodrigo called someone to open for us. But the worst was the water situation. First morning early rise for a tour, only icy water coming from the sink and shower. Second morning again an early 4 AM rise, NO water at all. Lots of excuses when we returned from the tour and a promise that it will be OK. Third morning, you guessed it, no water. We left for the airport after cleaning ourselves with bottled water we bought the day earlier and used the restrooms at the airport. Lots of smiles, "lo siento" and excuses and an offer to pay back one night, but I don't care about the money, I care about service. And no matter how basic and rustic, water should be the number 1 commodity in any hostel of any kind, but especially so in a desert town. If you are considering this place, look further for more centrally located facilities with better service. I know maybe there will be a reply by them, but if you want, I saved the entire chat conversation and can provide. This one is horrible and I'd give zero stars but have to mark at least one.......

I used it to go to town (5 min ) but also to head out to the Death Valley and the Ruins of Quitor. The receptionist during my time (5 nights) was Camilla and she was amazing. She booked all the trips for me and was available via WhatsApp for any questions I had. One day there was a problem in my room with the hot water supply and Camilla solved it within a few hours. Also Sara, the cook/cleaner, took so well care of me. I loved her omelettes in the morning and if I had to leave on an early trip she would make me a packed breakfast. My room was very comfortable and extremely clean. Sara makes the beds every day. It actually feels more like a hotel than a hostel, you get plenty of pillows, nice towels etc. The shared places are really nicely decorated, there are so many interesting things to see. I am really glad I chose this place as there are plenty of hostels in San Pedro. If I ever come back, it will be...
Read moreI’ve just spent four very happy days at Hostal Montepardo. As I was travelling alone, I wanted a cosy and safe mid-range hostal with plenty of outdoor space and this hostal totally delivered. It only has 8 rooms, all en-suite doubles, so it’s very quiet, even when several people are leaving early for tours. The whole hostal has been decorated in a wonderfully quirky taste and there are plenty of areas with seating to relax in, with the house cats for company. The breakfast is plentiful and a packed breakfast is left for you in the fridge if leaving early morning. The kitchen is open for communal use but I didn’t see anyone use it. The rooms are very comfortable and also tastefully done, with hot showers and fast internet. Camila, on reception, is very friendly and helpful and it was good to have the sense that she could be called upon if any problems arose while in San Pedro. I prebooked three tours with Flamingo Tours via the hostal and they also turned out to be a great experience. San Pedro is a relatively expensive town and I felt that Hostal Montepardo was excellent...
