This bed and breakfast is located off the beaten track in Santiago, so if you are looking for a quiet place to stay, but still within striking distance on foot or by public transport into the centre, this is a good option for you. The building itself does not resemble a house or bed and breakfast on the exterior, but is charming and full of character. Rooms are located along a central corridor and are spacious, but somewhat basic. There is a small whirlpool in the small central courtyard, but it is used more by the many cats that live on the roof and in the courtyard as a drinking pool than anything for bathing in. ||||Breakfast is substantial and tasty and the owners are friendly but do not speak any English. At times it feels like you are intruding into someone else's home. While there is a kitchen there, it seemed like it was used just by the owners for dinner and preparing breakfast for guests, than by guests themselves. ||||Guests are not given a front door key, so have to rely on the owners hearing the doorbell at the rear of the property at all times of day, which can take a while sometimes. It seemed like my room key was also optional, but my belongings were not not touched during my entire stay of 6 nights. ||||The area that the property is located in is definitely more of a true local neighbourhood, which allows you to experience the city differently and away from more touristy places. There are some good restaurants a few...
Read morePerhaps better described as a bed and breakfast rather than a hostel, Hostal Lago de Plata offers very spacious, comfortable rooms with plenty of character including grand high ceilings. The hosts of this lovely place go above and beyond to accommodate their guests by providing breakfast including fresh bread and home made jam every day. Eggs and fruit were also on offer most mornings. A couple of times we even got given a slice of cake from the hosts' adorable little boy whose birthday it had been.||||While we were there it was a rather quiet period, and breakfast ran from 7am to 11am (perfect for late risers). Our kind hosts even offered to rustle up dinner for us if we happened to be around at about 6pm. By then we had already adjusted to eating much later (thanks to some time spent in Buenos Aires), but had we still been on British time we would definitely have taken them up on their offer. Fresh towels were also provided every day.||||The hostel is very well located about five minutes' walk from Cumming subway station and a short walk from plenty of places to eat and drink so it is an ideal base from which to explore the wonderful things the area has to offer. ||||My boyfriend and I researched a lot of places before we booked here and we are so glad we did. While it seems to be lacking in as many reviews as you would expect something this good to have, don't let that put you off. It's clean, homely and...
Read moreThe taxi driver double checked the house number and looked a bit puzzled when he told me that this was the correct address. I liked the look outside. Rooms are really big as was the bed. The friendly owner was really nice, although the mouse of the computer (yes, there was a computer in my room with a big screen that was the tv as well) was broken, he borrowed me the mouse from the computer at the reception although he needed to work on it himself as well for making reservations etc. He pointed me to a nice nearby restaurant, that had live music and only local people were hanging out. Breakfast was really basic: coffee and some bread with cheese.||||The owner ordered a taxi for me for an early pick-up the next morning. The driver was a great character as well. An old gentleman (of the age of someone who would be enjoying an easy retirement day in my country) showed up wearing a neat suit with a hat and glasses, but his driving style was like someone in his...
