The hotel is more than a little run down and shows its age. ||In the hallway to my room, it looks like multiple people have vomited bleach over the last three decades that cannot be cleaned. My carpet was dirty to the point I had to wear shoes. The next day I asked the front desk to clean the carpet, and they did. But I have never had to ask for a carpet clean before. ||My window didn't really shut, but it is OK because the climate is not forgivable. There was a wire mesh over the window so no one could break in... but it was ugly. The wire mesh's ugliness is matched only by the AC unit directly blocking the window on the outside. The lack of view may have been a blessing as the tiny window looked out onto over walls. There was nothing to see. The upkeep was shabby, and everything looked run down. I did not feel safe. If there had been a safe in my room, I wouldn't have used it. ||Breakfast was a disappointment on a plate. I wrongly went to the bight and lively Level 2 restaurant, before learning I needed to go to level 2. There, a tired and sullen spread awaited. I love Chinese breakfast but didn't eat there after day 1.||The front desk staff were friendly enough and helped me book a taxi to the airport. However, 250 RMB for a 30-minute taxi ride is too high for China, so I suspect they were fleecing me a little.||On the upside, the hotel is within walking distance from the lively Beijing Road, so great shopping and food are nearby. Being a few minutes walk from a subway stop is also a plus, so I could easily get around Guangzhou. The 7-11 shop downstairs means cheap snacks and drinks are easily available, which was nice. The wi-fi worked pretty well, which was a nice surprise ||All in all, I look forward to never returning...
ย ย ย Read moreDon't be fooled by the very ordinary and seemingly laid-back exterior of Fu Ho (Fuhao) Hotelโit's a hidden gem. Upon arrival, it was a truly welcome and refreshing sight. The weather was hot and humid, and after spending a few hours navigating the bustling, energetic Baima Wholesale Market in Guangzhou, we were in need of a quiet escape. The hotel provided a surprisingly calm and comfortable retreat, serving as the perfect antidote to the city's hustle and bustle. The attentive and friendly attitude of the staff also contributed to a pleasant and relaxing stay. Also, I got to mention that the room curtains can be operated by one touch, push it in the direction you want and it will automatically draw open or close, both ends. The room notifications can be controlled at the bedside. There's also a popular Chinese restaurant in the third floor. Although we stayed only a night on a Sunday, the restaurant was always crowded. Actually the room interiors are practically new. My only complain, just a single gel dispenser for the bathroom. And yes, the toilet bowl and bath is separated.
This is just a quarter of what we pay for the Travelodge in Kowloon. Perhaps, next time I'll stay here and shuttle between Guangzhou...
ย ย ย Read moreArriving at the hotel the outside looks really impressive, marble entrance and good lighting. The front desk was quick and efficient in processing our group. The room that i stayed in was average. No room safe nor mini bar was evident. A decent sized shower and gpod water pressure though. The bed and pillows were very good.||The hotel's restaurant ( of which there are 2 ) are used by the surrounding neighbourhood so there are lots of people using them from breakfast through to dinner. Due to that we never ate at the restaurant and rather ate out.||Breakfast vouchers need to be collected from the main desk but you should ask for vouchers for all the days you are staying so there is no need to go up and down to the lobby every morning to collect. Breakfast is a choice of cereals, fruit, local Chinese dishes or eggs and what looks like ham.||Overall the hotel is close enough to the main shopping district to walk ( 5 minutes), has a metro quite close by and a decent enough hotel to make it your base while exploring Guangzhou.||There is also an 8 mart shop 25m from the hotel to get snacks. They also sell beer there for a great price of 9ยฅ for 2 for...
