Hotel NH Collection Bogotá Hacienda Royal — Hotel in Bogota, Capital District

Excellent stay at this hotel. We were in Bogota to visit family and do some sightseeing. The location can't be beat, easy taxi ride to and from the city center for the equivalent of 5 US dollars, walkable to everything in Usaquen including quite a few restaurants and coffeeshops, attached to a large shopping mall (Hacienda) for easy and safe money exchange (be prepared to pay cash for taxis, museums, and in some shops and restaurants) , there is an Olimpica supermarket for any snacks or drugstore items, also check out the mall food court for reasonably priced local dishes. Visitors park for free in the mall parking garage. Room was good, surprisingly quiet, slept with windows open! We had an amazing view of the mountains, beds were comfortable, wifi worked, liked that we had different kinds of pillows to pick from. Didn't love the carpet. Bathroom well equipped including full size hair dryer. Breakfast was good with excellent coffee options and thrilled to find lactose-free milk. Fresh breads, great fruit selection and fresh juices, but overall mostly international breakfast, would have preferred a few more local breakfast items, such as pandebonos, buñuelos or tamales. Everyone was attentive and helpful. Compared to previous experiences at other, pricier hotels, check in and check out was super fast, front desk always friendly and ready to help out. We also loved the free bottled water delivered daily to our room, the wonderful cleaning staff, and the wonderful breakfast staff. Kudos to the management of this place, they clearly pay attention to every single detail. For example, rarely do I find sufficient hangers for my clothes. Here we had more than enough. We stayed 8 nights and wished we could have stayed longer. Won't stay anywhere...

By the time we left the hotel, we unironically felt part of the family. The hotel staff were very kind, helpful, friendly, and attentive to any need. At one point I had left an umbrella in a taxi and the driver was due to drop it off at the hotel in the morning. I left some compensation cash for the driver at the front desk and the staff made sure to collect the umbrella for me and pay the driver. The rooms were very pleasant, no complaints. We asked for extra blankets and we got them. The gym was handy too, and free flavored water is provided there, as well as at the hotel entrance along with snacks. Laundry is expensive but everything was returned well in packaging or clothes hangers and on the same day. But one of the best parts was the breakfast buffet. There’s an excellent variety of fruits, pastries, cheeses, breads, cereals, and drinks. You can have for eggs, traditional arepas, traditional fried rice, and hot chocolate etc on request for no extra charge. Food was delicious and served 6-10am. Special shout out to staff members like Andrés Dominguez and Pedro who made our stay even better especially at breakfast, as well as to the cleaning and front desk staff. Pro-tip: use the green and white sign instead of the room service sign. This sign means you don’t want room service and you can avail of a complimentary fruit...

While I was asleep, a stranger entered my room due to a faulty door lock. When I reported it to management, they admitted this was a known issue and that at least one other guest had experienced the same problem. Yet nothing had been done to fix it or to warn guests. This is completely unacceptable and extremely alarming. I was fortunate enough to scare off the intruder, but many guests would have been terrified or even harmed in this situation. A hotel’s first responsibility is to provide secure accommodations, and here that responsibility was neglected. Until NH Collection Royal Bogotá can guarantee that its rooms are secure, I strongly advise travelers to avoid this property.

9/3 update: I was contacted by the hotel director personally who was very apologetic, gracious, and professional. I was assured the concern had been addressed and I personally visited the room where I previously stayed. I noticed the door system had been modified and I also noted the same modification on several other room doors. I had the opportunity to test the door system in two of the rooms and all appeared to be in safe, secure order.
