Onde Pepe Hostel — Hotel in Bogota, Capital District

It is difficult to describe in a Google review how wonderful it was finding this amazing hostel when I arrived in Colombia back in late November 2020. I lived in Colombia for 6 months, and it was my first time living abroad.

After a chaotic 30 hours at the Seattle airport with all my possessions; arriving in Colombia late at night to my booked hostel being chained up and closed off; and finally finding a dysfunctional hostel and getting lost in La Candelaria looking for food at 2:30am my first night in-country... finding this place is what got me oriented and back on my feet.

I stayed for 1 month at this hostel (and regret renting a room in Chapinero, as opposed to staying in the fantastic La Candelaria/El Centro area). A police officer gone rogue took $200 from me on one occasion, and the hostel owner rode around with me in a police van looking for the station where it happened for over 2 hours. I eventually got a bit more than half of it back and the officer I believe was reprimanded.

The people that work here are generally all the best of the best that I have experienced. Many, many other pros. Virtually no cons. I can't recommend this hostel enough. Absolutely my favorite. In all honesty I can say that this place is tied for first place for me with one other really good place in La Candelaria (and I've tried many of the hostels). Way better than Mexico City hostels. I stayed at Candelos Hostel almost a year ago and I think it's time for me to write a review for this amazing place. First of all the staff is wonderful. I was there for a couple of nights before I traveled around in Colombia for tree weeks. During this time the owner took care of my suitcase even though the place was under renovation and had some complications. When i came back my belongings were safe and the hostel ready to open again so I could stay there for the rest of my time in Bogota. I never doubted the owner of this place as she is one of the most sweet and hospitable persons I've met. ||||Unfortunately I got really sick my last night here. Fortunate for me, when I had a high fever and my whole body trembled the owner took care of me as her own family. She made me tea and gave me medicine which really helped and even sat with me a long time in the middle of the night until my body calmed down. I would never expect a hostel owner to take care of me like that, but she treated me without hesitation. Owner and staff is very racist. Processed go threw pravite property when your not in room. Raised regional cost of room. Cancel my booking last minute with agreement extending stay for month. Kept going up on the rates. Provide different lower rates for another guest that was local and fair skin tone. I paid much more premium price do to color my skin and being from TEXAS. Then proceed send a mass text on whats app 69 on other hostel and hotel. Raise there rates or say they where fully book. When they not. I never stay out past 8pm . Up 7 or 8 am . In response with another previous guest its true bathroom and bedroom were poorly cleaned. There was poor customer service.. No Real commucation with staff and Management .. Making decisions of the rules as they go along . Base on feeling and emotions. No policies and procedures where followed .
