This trip to Cartagena was special to me, because accompanying me for the first time, were 2 of my adult daughters. They were both very interested in the architecture and culture of the Old City, so I searched for a hotel that would most symbolize how I see the Old Cartagena. Thus I found El Claustro Hotel House. From the great door at the entrance, to the inner courtyard, to the winding hallways and stairs, and all the adjoining rooms therein, my daughters could only say WOW!!!!! The hotel is much larger than I thought, even knowing that it housed an art school and was an old convent. We loved exploring the several rooms, the church, the hallways and the beautiful courtyard. I did not expect the hotel to be pristine...it is old and yes, it does need some repair. And yes, if someone was looking for a comparison to a Hilton, then they would rightly have much to say. But, I was looking for the aesthetics and natural charm of a forgone period...of a different culture and a different place. I certainly found this here. I gave it an excellent review, not because it was a perfect place, but because it was perfectly what I was looking for to see. Oh yes... the staff were very friendly and helpful....and the air conditioner in our rooms, would make an eskimo put on a coat. I am thankful for the opportunity of the experience...
Read moreWe had a wonderful time at this hotel. It is just gorgeous and had the charm we were looking for in Cartagena. Everything is within walking distance. The staff was absolutely wonderful and went above and beyond the call of duty to help us and make us comfortable. The property is exquisite with a gorgeous chapel and beautiful gardens. There are art galleries and a music school so you can hear people practicing their instruments. There is a little cafe downstairs where you can get a coffee or a beer and relax in the garden Often there are concerts but the highlight was a beautiful wedding that took place on the lower floor. There is an upstairs terrace that is like your own private balcony where you can sit outside and relax and you can see the water and listen to the birds and just enjoy being in Cartagena. We thought El Claustro and Cartagena...
Read moreThis place is nicely located in the historical center. There is a cafe in the garden area. ||The room s are small though and very basic. ||I liked the roof top which is good for relaxing and also very nice to have let the air in your room which you need it in Cartagena.||Again the building and the location is the best.||Cleaning ladies are very kind and nice but i think it is too expansive for the small rooms .||I stayed there two times for a long duration. My only problem is the concierge .They seem to be not happy to have customers. Except one person who was working there was not nice. I am nice ,easy going person so i did not complain. One person who was working there night time was very abusive and rude. H e did not wanna help or di anything I asked for .||However the location is perfect and very serene...
