One of the best hotel experiences we’ve ever had—highly recommend! We stayed at Casona del Porvenir for 10 days and absolutely loved every minute of it. The hospitality from the entire staff—housekeeping, front desk, bartenders, cooks, and maintenance—was nothing short of exceptional and truly heartfelt. We arrived as guests, but by the end of our stay, we genuinely felt like part of the family.
From the moment we checked in, Gabriel at the front desk made us feel right at home. He quickly became our go-to person for everything—recommendations, questions, concerns, or just friendly conversation. We looked forward to chatting with him about our daily adventures and always felt supported and welcomed.
Alex and Vicki, who served as bartender and server, also left a lasting impression—not just on us, but on our entire family (even those staying at another hotel!). My relatives would often come by just to grab a signature Cotorro drink and enjoy Alex’s warm, friendly energy.
Our room was spotless upon arrival, and housekeeping was flexible, allowing cleanings at our preferred times. The hotel itself is peaceful and quiet, with most rooms located inside the building—perfect for relaxation. If you're sensitive to noise, you might want to avoid the balcony rooms that face the street, as the sounds of nightlife, music, and car horns can be lively.
We loved the included breakfast offered at both Casona del Porvenir and its sister hotel, Casona del Colegio. The fresh juices were a highlight—especially the coco-maracuyá smoothie from Colegio. Mango and watermelon juices were also delicious!
While the pool is on the smaller side, it was still a nice spot to unwind. One delightful surprise we looked forward to each night was the sweet treat left in our room—the banana muffin on the first night was our favorite (we think it was banana!).
As for safety, the hotel is secure and has attentive security staff at night. We always felt safe, even when returning in the early hours after a night out.
If you’re planning a trip to Cartagena, we highly recommend staying at Casona del Porvenir. The team will take excellent care of you, just like they did for us. Thank you so much for the incredible hospitality—we hope to...
Read moreA very luxury 3 nights stay in Cartagena's old town.
There are two Casona hotels (Casona del Provenir and Casona del Colegio) in close proximity (15 metres apart from each other) under the same management in the middle of the Cartagena Old Town. Guests of one hotel could use the facilities of the other. Casona del Provenir only opened about 4 months ago and the entire hotel felt very premium and modern to me and my partner. The toilet is of Japanese style which cleans / dries your bottom and they provide premium products from Loto del Sur (Colombian's equivalent of AESOP, for those who are into their skincare) in the bathroom and an extremely effective extraction system so the bathroom mirror never gets fogged up. The bed is the most comfortable one (super thick mattress, super comfortable) we've had in Colombia and although the hotel is right in the middle of the old town where it can get noisy, you don't hear a thing while inside the room. Oh, they also have remote-controlled blinds, ceiling fans and air-conditioning unit, as well as wireless chargers on both sides of the bed to charge your phones. The maid cleans/tidies your room while you're having breakfast, so it's all made when you return. The maid also checks in the evening to see if you need any extra towels or other toiletries which is helpful
The breakfast (one cold drink, one hot drink and one choice from the a la carte menu) included in the room rate was very well made and nicely presented, however, the portion was a bit too healthy for my liking. You CAN of course pay extra and order more but I didn't bother. Also, the room was a bit small but extremely well equipped like the hotels in Japan. Some rudimentary Spanish will definitely enhance your experience as the staff do not speak...

You are not going to be disappointed here!!! This is the sister hotel to Hotel Colegio (Huge Fan) which is 1/2 block away. The management hit yet another home run with this property. I have been coming to Cartagena now for 5 years and try to mix up my hotels every 2 days to get a different experience and vantage point of areas. I recently had a 2 night stay Nov 25-27th and had a warm greeting as always by their entire staff. You will only find 12 rooms at this hotel so you have the staff at your full attention.
The room - no detail has gone missing in the design. From colors/textures/lighting. From the bedding which I dug open to find a brand name so I can try to replicate at home. Which screams comfort and luxury. The bathroom which has a beautiful backlit mirror, bidet toilet that had me shopping for one to install at home as well.
The mini bar was stocked w drinks for indulging and they come by a couple times a day and refresh the complimentary chilled glass bottle w water. Oh can’t forget turn down service in the evening as well.
You will find a small pool on 4th floor to indulge a quick dip to take the heat off. The spa services are not at this hotel but at Colegio but staff quickly booked me an appointment for a long post flight massage.
You will not find a better staffed, design, unkept hotel in Cartagena for the price I promise you. Now get in and experience it now before their calendar gets filled. Which was my situation and I took whatever night they had available on...
