My girlfriend and I spent 3 nights at Monteverde Lodge and Gardens. We were initially excited for our stay until we arrived at the hotel. Be aware that there is no AC and there is no mini fridge in the room. The first night we spent there was the worst. We decided to eat at the restaurant and reserve the table in the butterfly garden. It is open to the outside so my girlfriend ran back to the room to change into pants and a jacket since there were mosquitos. I was very disappointed in my meal and felt like my steak tasted like it was microwaved. My girlfriend is vegan and was happy to have an option to eat on the menu. She said her meal was tasty, but the portion was small and she was felt feeling hungry. Usually she has the opposite problem of portions being too big when we eat out. Both of us were disappointed in our meal, especially because our entrees were expensive and cost about $30 each. Later that night we had lots of bugs and some mosquitos in our room and we did not have the doors open at all so we aren’t sure why there were so many. We wondered if the cleaning ladies maybe left the balcony doors open while they were cleaning earlier. I had to kill over 10 bugs in the room before we went to bed and some of them were pretty big. I got bit in the night and my girlfriend got freaked out when a bug landed on her face and woke her up in the night. The beds are not comfortable either. Again, no AC but there is a ceiling fan but we burned up that first night. This hotel is charging a lot of money for an experience we do not want to have again. They are charging way too much and we feel that we certainly did not get the value we paid for. We also stayed right around the corner at Hotel & Spa Poco a Poco in Monteverde and it was excellent. It was slightly less money for a LOT more value. For basically the same price we had a room with AC, a mini fridge, the beds were much more comfortable with a spacious California king, our room and bathroom was much, much bigger and nicer and we even had our own private hot tub and dining area. If anyone asked us, we would strongly recommend Poco a Poco over Monteverde Lodge. Seriously, your overall stay will be so much better. We regret spending so much money at Monteverde Lodge. What we did appreciate about Monteverde Lodge and Gardens is that the waitstaff and reception is very friendly and helpful. At breakfast each morning they greeted me by first name. The breakfast and portions were great. They have a small heated pool which we enjoyed. The pictures of the hotel online are very nice and because of the price we had expected better quality of our room. They need to either make serious improvements to the rooms or lower their price substantially, at least add a hot tub next to the pool for how much they are charging. For almost $350 per night we expect a luxury hotel experience and Monteverde Lodge is 3...

Maybe the hotel is actually nice, but if you want to be potentially wrongfully charged thousands of dollars, you can risk booking with them. I would strongly advise you against booking a stay at Monteverde Lodge after my frustrating and disappointing experience with them.
Back in October, I made a reservation through Expedia for a stay at the lodge for about $600, but we had to cancel that booking a few days later. However, in mid-November, I noticed an unauthorized charge for over $2000 from Monteverde Lodge on my credit card. I never stayed at the property, and the reservation was cancelled more than a month earlier, so there was absolutely no reason for this charge.
When I called to address the issue, I was told that Monteverde Lodge, not Expedia, had processed the charge. The Monteverde staff seemed confused, and it wasn't clear whether this charge was a mistake or an error involving another guest’s payment. Eventually they admitted it was an issue on their end. However, despite multiple follow-ups, I was met with delays, confusion, and run-arounds. It’s been nearly 3 months since I initially raised this issue, and I’ve still had no clear explanation or refund. They have “attempted” to refund the money but it continually gets lost and they cant even tell me where it went.
After months of frustration and no resolution, I had no choice but to file a fraud report with my credit card company. The lack of accountability and urgency from the lodge has been unacceptable, and I’m left with no faith in their ability to resolve any problems.
I am sharing this review to warn potential guests about the terrible customer service and lack of responsibility. If you care about your hard-earned money and expect transparency and professionalism, I would strongly recommend choosing another place to stay in the Monteverde area. Based on my experience, I would not trust Monteverde Lodge with properly charging...
Read moreVery nice hotel with a very serene and calming vibe. Patio opens to a small manmade peaceful water feature/stream that runs past the patio (for decor and sound). Lots of public spaces to hang out and relax, indoors and out. Service is top-notch, helpful and friendly. High quality linen, pillows, shampoo, bathrobes. ||A few negative points:|1) Out of 4 days there, 2 were interrupted by noisy and unruly young kids (different parties). First kid next door was yelling and splashing in the water and threw a palm-sized rock that bounced around and onto our patio. Second kid's family got up at 6am to depart and kid was loudly singing in the shower and loud overall for an hour, probably waking up the entire row of rooms. ||It's not the hotel's fault to monitor unruly kids however maybe this hotel attracts them? There are 5-6 rooms all with 2 queen beds along a row, I presume most families of 4 will choose these rooms. ||Also there is zero sound insulation in the front of the room (front door and bathroom) and walls are thin, so any sounds come right into the room from neighboring rooms and the hallway. ||If you are looking for relaxation you may or may not get it here. ||2) The rooms are not very practical. They are big enough but lack enough table space, shelf space, counter space, etc to place things. Another bedside table, a hall table, changing the double sink to a single sink, that would help. No coat hooks, very small closet space (maybe 1.5 feet wide?). And there were only 2 outlets that we could find in the room. ||3) Rain shower is nice, however so much water came out that the shower did not drain. After 1 minute of showering the water would pool 1-2 inches in the shower and drain slowly. We tried 1) calling maintenance, but they tried and could not fix it. 2) Turning off water while showering, works a bit but drain easily...
