Location of this hostel is right down hill from downtown. I stayed here mid May and it was off season but this hostel was pretty busy probably given the affordable pricing. I would not stay here again personally, it just wasn’t my preference. I stayed in a private room with my sister and we had separate beds. There was a wadded hairball in my bed. I didn’t feel that it was as clean as I could prefer and the toilet seat was broken. Not a big deal but just a little inconvenient. Parking here is atrocious so I wouldn’t stay here if I had a car. There’s like a space out front to park, supposedly for 2 cars but it was really difficult to get out if you pulled in and it’s off a busy road so it just adds to the stress. The breakfast was pretty good, we only had it 1 of the 2 mornings we were there because it doesn’t start til like 7:15. Quiet time wasn’t really enforced There was a gross smell in the room that was clearly trying to be covered up by room spray or air freshener so it either smelled bad or super fragrancey
overall i think i was just too old to stay somewhere...

This is a family-run hostel, and the family appears to live in the lower level. They join guests for breakfast each morning, so it feels a little like a homestay. Even though i only stayed two nights, they called me by my name. When i found out that my bus left at 1500, they let me hang out a while. The place is clean, spacious, and cozy. There is a little family dog who is friendly.
One thing to keep in mind is that they lock the doors at 2200, so you will not be able to arrive or check in after then. I arrived at 2205 (the roads from Río Celeste are choppy) and only got lucky that the door was unlocked. But i had to text the cell numbers on the door to check in, and it looked like the owner had been asleep. The next night, i returned from dinner at 2100, and the door was locked, and another guest in the front room let me in. It sounds like you can put a five-dollar deposit...
Read moreStayed here for a night in Apr 2024. Booked a dorm but was upgraded to a private room with shared bath since dorms were overbooked. The private rooms definitely needs a upgrade ! Showing its age - Bed was springy and had craters ( didnt get a good sleep) , torn pillow cases , old and dirty looking comforter and sheets. The rooms 7x7 feet (felt cramped) , and there is one window without the mesh screen , so the mosquitoes get in when opened for ventilation. 3 rooms share the tiniest bathroom and shower. Rooms smell musty
Positives - Good views from the balcony/deck Has a kitchen with basic supplies and utensils. Hot water in showers.
I felt like I have to move out the moment I entered my room. But stayed there for a night since it was already 6pm and I had...
