The hostel is pretty cute, with a terrace and a great view onto the valley. The prices are very affordable for what you get. Rooms on the upper floor are very nice, but on the lower floor they are pretty basic. Breakfast is included and pretty decent. The hostel is well located near the centre of Monteverde. However, you need to drive to get to the attractions (national park, ziplining, night tours, coffee tours, etc). BE CAREFUL with booking tours with the hostel, you may or may not get ripped off, we didn't have much choice as we were carless. More details: The Kinkajou Night Walk was great. Our guide was an official one and he spotted a lot of animals. The El Trapiche Coffee/Cane/Chocolate Tour was a great family-run tour. We got to see how they are all harvested and produced, got to make our own candy, eat some fresh made chocolate and cheer with a shot of guaro. The Monteverde National Park tour we booked through the hostel was a horrible experience. (The park itself was beautiful don't get me wrong). We got picked up at the hostel by two brothers, one of which was the guide. Once there, we were in a group of 5 people excluding the guide, whom we realized was not an official one as he was not wearing a uniform and spotted nothing except a hummingbird in his nest (which had probably been there for at least 2 weeks let's be honest). Later, we had to go back and forth across a hanging bridge and by the time we got back across (we took a few pics on the bridge, around 1-2mins time), the guide and 3 other people were nowhere to be seen. Having no map, we walked around on our own and saw more by being quiet and taking less busy paths. When we called for the transport back, the hostel claimed the guide searched for us...he didn't. Selvetura Adventure Park: Expensive but definitely worth it! Do both ziplining and hanging bridges! If you're taking the organized transport by the hostel, be careful with the 2pm departure...the park was closing at 5pm and we were told once we got there we wouldn't have time to do both. Be stubborn. We did both, got back at 5:20 and still got a...
Read moreCamino verde is a monteverde hidden gem. Not only is it extremely affordable, but it surpasses the quality and experience of other hotels that we stayed at that were much more expensive. From checkin, we were welcomed with open arms. Reception was welcoming, accommodating and helpful with plan activities, communicating with tours, and arranging private transportation for guests. The hotel itself has a welcoming ambiance. It is very homey and quaint with free tea, coffee, and popcorn offered daily. There is a large patio area for guests to hang out and enjoy the mountainous views as well as views of the Pacific Ocean. In additional to the large patio, there are also small patios on the lower and upper floor which are more private. Rooms are clean and comfy, with AC available if needed. The only thing I would mention is that all guests tend to have the same early morning itineraries for activities so the shower water seemed to be colder and have less pressure in the morning (5:45-8:30ish). We did not have this problem at night, so we opted to either shower the night prior or get up super early before others. Breakfast is offered daily in the main reception area and it is delicious! Multiple options are available and we did not have any complaints. The reception area also has a kitchen which guests are allowed to store food items and drinks in the fridge if needed. Overall I truly loved my experience at Camino verde and would recommend it to anyone! Staff were friendly, service was good and rooms were comfortable and clean. We had no problems with noise while we were there either which was...
Read moreI am a solo female traveler who stayed at Camino Verde for 2 nights while traveling in Costa Rica for 10 days at the end of May. I really enjoyed my stay here. I stayed in the small room downstairs with the bunk bed. It had windows facing a hall, with curtains to pull for privacy. I was a little concerned about there not being a window directly to the outside, but the temperature was always comfortable. Although some reviewers complained about noise, I did not have any trouble with noise during the night. I go to sleep early and wake up with the sun, however, so not sure if that makes any difference. The place was clean and it was super easy to book activities. That staff was so kind and helpful. Of all the places I stayed, I met the most female travelers (and solo travelers) in Monteverde. I did the Kinkajou Night tour, Monteverde guided tour in the morning, and took a shuttle to Santa Elena in the afternoon. I absolutely love nature and was glad I did both parks. Monteverde was great for spotting wildlife with the guides and Santa Elena was wonderful for getting a real feel for the cloud forest (it had more of the cloudy feel than Monteverde) and feeling a sense of real quiet. Camino Verde was the perfect accommodation. Just a simple place to sleep with a decent breakfast and helpful staff for choosing activities and getting around. I couldn't have...
