The experience we had tonight (Janauary 30, 2020)was absolutely horrendous and so unprofessional.
I’m a travel agent and have been working in the industry for almost 10 years this was one of the worst experiences I have had. The staff member on duty was so incredibly rude and disrespectful I am still in a state of shock.
I made a reservation a few days ago and have had constant communication from the hotel regarding my stay which was great however my experience in person was completely opposite.
Upon checking in I was told the card machine didn’t work and I could only pay in cash. I explained I had already been told paying with card was completely fine so that is the only payment method I brought with me. I did not have much cash on me. I was not at all notified that the internet was out otherwise I could have withdrawn Cash and made other arrangements. There is absolutely excuse for this as you have my contact details and were quick to communicate previously. If I had been notified then I could have bought a bank card with me or withdrawn cash before arrival. We paid for a room with WiFi and were told we would not have any for the entirety of our stay.
For these reasons I requested a discount as to do a cash advance on a credit card at the bank incurs huge fees and I shouldn’t be responsible for this as it is the hotel that weren’t able to follow through.
Even with the above it was the attitude and treatment by the man on duty that was really the most unacceptable.
He refused any kind of discount and not only that was incredibly rude. He was not understanding or accommodating and in fact he crossed out our names, cancelled our reservation and threw us out on the street in the dark with our luggage and it was incredibly windy and cold. He called me a bad person a bad tourist amongst other awful comments. I just wanted what we booked which is what any client would want.
I cannot even express how incredibly rude and disrespectful and unprofessional this is. After traveling around Costa Rica for a month and working in the travel industry for 10 years I have never experienced this.
This man working for you has no idea about customer service and obviously does not care about this business or making visitors feel welcome. Noone else should have to experience this level of disrespect again.
Luckily we found a great hostel around the corner, in the center of of town with a private room for half the price.
Do not stay here!! There are so many better options where you will be more comfortable, pay lower prices, be happy and have an amazing stay. This is...

· Started off a nice place. Good check in but check out left this place tainted and advise anyone considering to book this place.. don’t!
· Jorge and annaleigh I think her name was. We booked a shuttle which left at 07:45. Arrived to have breakfast which was included in our price at our designated time slot at 07:30. We walked in with our small bags and put them under the table, not very noticeable.
The lady doing breakfast service came up to us and told us to put our bags in reception whilst we eat. After all our belongings got stollen last week we wanted to keep everything within our site. This completely escalated to both Jorge and Anna Leigh shouting at us demanding that we put our bags in the office ( out of our site) Apparently and I quote “you do not respect my job and I will get fired by the manager” so manager.. why.. Your apparent rules completely embarrassed myself and my partner as your staff were rude and aggressive. ( don’t believe me? Watch the cctv..)
They refused to give us breakfast which we had already paid for and gave it to other tables who came in after us.. so in the end we had to leave to get our shuttle completely embarrassed.
Location was down a dark street, no street lights. Beds were incredibly hard.. Yes there was a fan but too far away from the bed so it doesn’t do anything.. Only good thing about this place was half decent WiFi and the lady who checked us in.
Wouldn’t even stay here again if I was paid to.. Awful awful human beings - Jorge and anna Leigh. Sack them if you want your business to grow.. we both work in hospitality and never have I been treated/...

Pros: -- Ro at reception was great, straightened out a booking problem, made a reservation for a Monteverde tour for the next day with a terrific guide. -- Very comfortable beds, clean hostel. -- Nice outdoor patio with great views (but very windy when we were there). -- Very good breakfast, you pick a time slot and they serve a fixed breakfast. The first day it was pancakes, scrambled eggs and fresh fruit plate. Dry cereal and juices available. -- Small kitchen available.
Cons: -- I sent emails to the hostel several days in advance requesting Monteverde tour options. The initial ones were returned, but when we tried to book it got no reply. Finally after we had already spent a day at the hostel and gone on the tour that Ro booked, I got a short email telling me to book it myself on arrival. Very stressful and not very friendly. -- Breakfast doesn't open until 7 which isn't enough time to eat (fast), drive to the parking lot, take the shuttle to the entrance and pay for tickets. Our guide had already started and although we finally found him, it was unnecessarily stressful. It wouldn't have cost them anything to open the dining area at 6:30 and let us self-serve coffee and cereal. -- Small kitchen open during the day, but you can't eat inside when it's very windy.
