My stay at En Route Hostel was absolutely fantastic!
One of my standout features was the privacy curtains for each bed—super underrated and made a huge difference. Each bed also came with a convenient USB port and a ledge for personal items, which made everything so much easier.
The free electronic lockers were a great touch, though one did malfunction in the middle of the night, setting off a security alarm for about five minutes. But hey, at least I knew my stuff was secure!
Speaking of thieves,I did have my Ferrero Rocher chocolates swiped from the fridge. They have a sticker policy for labeling your food, but I guess chocolate was too tempting for someone to resist! To be fair, I can't even blame them—it’s delicious stuff!
The air conditioning in the shared space was wonderful, but the dorms were still a bit warm. Despite that, I had no issues with other travelers; everyone was super friendly, and the social scene in town was amazing.
The kitchen was also a highlight—fully equipped and perfect for cooking your own meals (it closes at 11 PM), and it was a great way to meet other guests. The staff were helpful and friendly, always ready to answer any questions. They provided super 24/7 service and truly made the experience feel welcoming. The shared spaces were always clean and well-maintained.
Though the hostel was fully booked when my friend visited, the vibe in my section was lovely and welcoming, with a steady flow of new people each day. I would highly recommend booking in advance to secure your spot and get the best price, as this place fills up fast!
All in all, I wouldn’t stay anywhere else when visiting Split—highly recommend En...
Read moreDespite what some reviews have said, my stay at En Route was really lovely. Don't let the pictures of the location scare you as it's only a 10-15 minute walk to the closest beach and to the center of Old Town and never felt unsafe. We would go out late at night and come back at 3/4am and never had any issues, as the walk back is quite nice through residential streets and no one loiters in the area of the hostel despite the looks of it.
This has also been the cleanest hostel I've stayed in! Lots of counter space in the bathrooms, paper towels (a plus in hostels), and hooks by every mirror and bed, which I appreciated. The showers are really spacious and I never had any issues with hot water, although there is nowhere to place your clothes (hooks would be useful).
The beds are the best part as they're quite spacious and kept clean and come with curtains that feels like a luxury to have in a hostel. You also don't feel your bunkmate moving in the bed above or below you, which is a huge plus as someone who's a light sleeper. Another con is the new locks on the lockers are really loud and can cause some issues, especially at night, but the lockers are really spacious and secure.
The hostel can have a social atmosphere depending on the vibe of the guests staying. It's easy to socialize as there's one big common area to hangout in, but you do need to put in the effort if you want to...
Read moreThe hostel has all of the essentials. The kitchen was well equiped with cooker, microwave, fridge, toaster, kettle and cutlery. The room had a comfortable bed, curtains, plugs and a ledge to store items. Lockers were provided in the rooms which is a plus. The 8-person room was spacious and fairly modern. Many showers and toilets, never had to queue or wait. You are provided with a hand towel which is handy. The common room is in the middle which means noise enters the room and if you are trying to sleep early it is disturbing. There are multiple clubs and bars located in the complex which further adds some background noise (luckily I had ear plugs). The complex which the hostel is located in has a lot of graffiti and seems a little run down but I didn't feel unsafe as people didn't loiter there. There's a Tommy supermarket next door which is handy. The hostel is about a 15-20 minutes walk to the train station/harbour. The hostel organised late check in for me as I was arriving after 11pm. On leaving, I was able to leave my bag until later which is handy especially when it was quite warm. Overall, it was a pleasant experience and would stay again, it is not the fanciest...
