A visit to the restaurant Šug in Split is an experience that simply cannot be compared to any other in the entire city. I have never had a better meal in my life! Šug is a place where all worries disappear as soon as you step through the door, and the magic begins with the first bite. I have visited all the fine dining restaurants in Split because I truly enjoy top-notch gastronomy, but Šug is definitely the best. Here, tradition and modern cuisine are combined in a way that no one else can achieve. Every detail is carefully designed, and the kindness and professionalism of the staff make you feel at home. I would especially like to highlight the waiter with a Dubrovnik accent who was incredibly kind and professional. His dedication and attention to the guests further enriched my experience. I had the dish "hoba alla peka," which was absolutely divine, paired with a perfectly matched glass of wine. The dessert, “paradižot”, that I ordered at the end was pure poetry – it simply speaks all the languages of the world. This is a restaurant I frequent, and it leaves me breathless every time. I recommend it to all fine dining enthusiasts and those who want to experience culinary magic in the heart of Split. The clientele of fine dining expect an elegant and exclusive experience and Šug is above every restaurant in Split.

We went here on the recommendation of our hotel (who rang ahead and booked a table for us). The wine was lovely, we had a table outside. The waiters were super and were very helpful, particularly as we spoke (let's face it) absolutely no Croatian whatsoever. We shared the Šug Platter to start (tuna tartare, smoked swordfish roll, smoked prawn pâté, octopus, and a bit of fish that they also have in their stew) - it was all delicious, but the pâté was a bit strong for my personal taste. The bread that came with it was super fresh too. We both had the tuna steak, which was so soft and beautiful. The atmosphere was also really nice, the lights outside were set quite low, which made it feel much more intimate, and there was a good mix of groups, couples, friends, and tourists as well as locals there. All round super delicious! Not the very cheapest (meal including coffee and wine came to about 600HRK for two), but so, so, worth it! Update: came back a second time, and it's the best meal we ate in Split this week. Had gnocchi and venison as a starter and the tuna and duck for main. Lovely wine, super informed waiters, great atmosphere. Highly recommend. It came to just over €80 not including tip. We booked online a couple of days before, glad we did as the restaurant inside was full (it's been rainy this week).

When we were planning our trip to Croatia we decided to book ahead and in Split we reserved the Michelin rated Šug restaurant - had to leave a deposit when we booked. Located just outside of the old town, in almost a residential neighbourhood. We had an option of either the indoor dining area or the adjoining outdoor garden area. The atmosphere and decor is quaint and unpretentious. We started with smoked swordfish carpaccio (rice, lemon & capers) and Beefsteak tartar (tomato jam, lemon jam, mustard cream & grilled bread). Both of which were delicious. For our mains we went with the waiter’s recommendation: “Royal Tećada" (lobster, white fish, oysters, octopus, shrimp/langoustines, macaroni). The dish however didn’t live up to its hype. The lobster and langoustines were both overcooked and the flesh was mushy and almost inedible. The heads of the octopus were a little tough and chewy. The sauce was really nice though. For our dessert we had the recommended traditional Split cake : almond/fig/vanilla panacotta/white chocolate and Paradižot (a floating island of meringue on a milk/egg yolk custard). The split cake was a deconstructed version of cake and completely missed the mark - the apricots were at odds with the other ingredients. The paradizot was slightly eggy for my tastes but loved the biscuit inside the custard. Each plate was beautifully presented, yet a number of our dishes weren’t well-balanced in flavor. Based on the seafood we’ve tasted, something at Šug just falls short. For the price, we had high standards and expectations.

We were a party of eight people in our early 20's. We were looking for a nice place to taste some Croatia before going back home. I set "€€" on the price filter and this came up, but it was NOT what I had in mind. We spent 20-40€ pro capite, and everything was absolutely delicious, but we saw menu options ranging alone 90-140€, so be warned! I had a very nice platter of cheese&jam and then some beef cheek with gnocchi alla romana. Being born and raised in Italy I was absolutely prepared to say "well, these cheese cuts are good, but ours are way better". I was surprised! And the jam was also excellent. The second course ASTOUNDED me. The waiter came and explained that the beef cheek had been marinated in red wine for long hours, and that it's supposed to taste better when eaten with the gnocchi. I'm not sure these were real gnocchi, but they were really good when eaten as he suggested. The beef itself was such an experience it gave me goosebumps! I only gave 4/5 for the atmosphere because there was no A/C running, and we were sitting next to the dessert fridge so we were sweating the whole time. Very good service anyway. Hope to visit again soon!
