I have mixed feelings when reviewing Gudin Pigeria. I don't want to sound too negative but at the same time I want to rate as I felt after having dinner there. The idea, the place and the food is lovely. So it is worth trying just for the experience. I felt though it was a hit or a miss. We ordered a 1/4 piglet for two and we ended with the head half. Of course one needs to get it but if you are the one with the back half, you are luckier with a nicer piece of meat. It seemed as well that despite not many menu options, nobody had the same plates! And unfortunately the service wasn't great. Of course it is busy but not to excuse our waiter attitude. We ordered some extra grilled veg, which have never been served but that have been charged. The excuse, when the bill came was that we were treated with extra potatoes... Should have been said to us when being served and not when we mentioned at paying time. Hence a treat would have been nice. We were also reminded that tipping was optional but highly recommended, and at a minimum rate of 12%. Hum, not so optional to me! Plus one should never be reminded to tip... But to finish on a nice note I would recommend for the experience as more than likely one may get a nicer...
Read moreOh. My. GOD! This is the best meal I had in Split. You know that old adage of “Do one thing only but do it REALLY well. That what they’ve done here at Gudin.Pigeria. They make roast pork. But in all honesty that feel like I’m doing them a grave disservice. It’s like saying Van Gogh made paintings. Their speciality is roast suckling pig cooked. We had a half kilo of Crispy Pig (sous vide whole pig sold by weght in kg, roasted and deboned) between two of us which, with the side dishes, was more than enough. The pork meat was perhaps 3cm thick, juicy, & topped with about a cm of melt in the mouth reduced fat (like belly pork) on top of each cube was a wafer thin delightfully crispy piece of crackling. The waiter (owner?) was really helpful and attentive suggesting New Potatoes roasted in the dripping pork fat, pickled vegetables (which added bit and spice to the meal) with delicious fresh focaccia - a must to mop all the yummy meat juices. The restaurant is located in a unit in the Green Market & has open air seating. The vibe was very cool, modern and foodie. I can’t recommend this restaurant...
Read moreGreat food in an unassuming location on the green market. We visited after the market had ended and the location was very quiet with chilled music drifting from the kitchen/bar area. Service was great; friendly, attentive, with genuine honest suggestions and advice on the menu without any pushiness. Setting is outdoor seating, with umbrellas for protection and the offer of blankets to keep off any chill. The food was outstanding! The crispy pork belly was probably the nicest pork we've ever had - our only regret was not ordering more. The cottage cheese roast potatoes were amazing. The char sui pork was not standard char sui, but was full of flavour - and fee accompanying carrots were delicious. The tomato salad was a great side to add some freshness. I'd have no hesitation in recommending this place to anyone - obviously as long as you eat pork. And our only regret is that we only found this place on our last day in Split as we would 100% have been back again if we'd...
