We arrived about 1am local time. No facilities open (to be expected) , but the hotel reception informed us there were sandwiches and fruit in our room. A good start. It went downhill from there.
Our room was in a satellite apartment complex 5 minutes walk from the hotel. Not horrendous in the grand scheme of things, but annoying after a few days, traipsing back and forth for every meal, and to/from the pool and facilities etc.
All the sandwiches left were meat based, which isn't great when some of our family are vegetarian. This was to become a theme throughout our stay. Every dinner there was rarely more than just 1 vegetarian option, excluding the salad bar. On one night of the week there were none. Many nights I resorted to just eating margarita pizza as everything else had meat in, even to pointless extremes of little slivers of bacon in pasta carbonara. I didn't think vegetarianism was that abstract of an idea? Especially when there was a dedicated gluten free area.
Almost all the deserts had nuts sprinkled over them, entirely unnecessarily, which made deserts an issue for 2 of the 4 of us who have nut allergies, and the other 2 obviously not eating nuts to avoid transfer.
We went half board so were expecting to pay for alcoholic drinks etc, but dinner was a huge scam. Diners were forbidden from taking ANY drinks in to the dining hall, and nothing was provided. You even had to pay additionally for table water. On one night we took in a half full water bottle that we'd bought the night before, and were rudely told by the restaurant manager to put it away as we couldn't have it.
The facilities were as you'd expect in any large hotel on Cyprus, but seemingly uncared for. The 'kids club' advertised was a very run down room well out the way, where the poor girl running it was trying to do the best she could with what little there was (basically just colouring sheets and some board games). Paint and plaster were coming off the walls, and the completed kids colouring displayed seemed to be a few seasons old. Outside was a small playground, but the kids club and playground weren't really suitable for kids over 5.
There was a large swimming pool but it's not heated and very deep, and after 10 minutes in it I started to lose feeling in my fingertips. My daughter's lips turned blue. The only saving grace here is that the beach is only a 2 minute walk down a dedicate boardwalk, but as it's a public beach, you have to pay for loungers / umbrellas.
Our room was made up daily, but that's about where the cleaning stopped. We had to ask twice for the floor to be hoovered / mopped due to dust, but it wasn't ever more than cursory (see photo). Dust balls were everywhere in the room.
We are a family of 4 with a 12yr old boy, 7 Yr old girl. We were given 2 double beds. The receptionist couldn't really understand why we asked for an additional bed, even when we said it wasn't really appropriate for mixed gender kids to be sharing a bed. Both the sofa bed and the additional fold out bed provided had mattresses that had clearly had significant usage and the sofa bed especially was basically 'v' shaped towards the middle.
The only saving grace that prevented this from being a 1 star is the waiting staff in the dining hall, who are all incredibly friendly, polite and helpful. As were the 2 girls running the daily activity programme. The other entertainment was lacklustre at best, with the highlight perhaps being the kids magician, who despite being funny and quite good, spent half his show saying that he normally performed at better hotels for adults.
Overall, I would DEFINITELY not come here if you are vegan, or vegetarian, and I wouldn't say it's anywhere near as family oriented as it...
Read moreWe have recently visited this hotel for the second time, but the experience was vastly different from my first stay.||The atmosphere was marred by inconsiderate and rude behavior from some guests, mostly from Eastern Europe. Families with children were allowed to run around naked in the beach bar restaurant and pools, and some parents even encouraged their children to urinate on the sandy beach. Additionally, some adult guests were removing their swimwear fully in front of others, seemingly unaware of the discomfort this caused.||The hotel's management of sunbeds was also lacking. Guests were leaving towels and inflatables on sunbeds overnight or early in the morning, and staff would often walk past without addressing the issue, despite clear signage prohibiting this behavior. Some guests were holding multiple sunbeds around the main pool and private beach, moving between them throughout the day or not using them at all.||During our stay, we experienced issues with the cleanliness and maintenance of our room. Despite multiple requests to reception and leaving the door light on for room to be cleaned, A Disappointing Return|the room was not consistently cleaned to a satisfactory standard. Notably, dust accumulation was a persistent problem, with visible dust remaining even after several days and mold visible around the air conditioning throughout the hotel. This also included stains on the towels. Bedding quality was poor and if you wanted to upgrade the pillows there was a payment request of €5 per day which I feel is unacceptable for a 4 star hotel.||The entertainment was underwhelming, with the entertainment staff often appearing idle. The buffet in the restaurant was repetitive and unimpressive, with some dishes, like prawn crackers and poppadoms, being served daily without clear context or accompanying dishes. The pool bar food, however, was a highlight, consistently tasting better than the buffet options.||The final straw came on our last day. We had already booked and paid for a late checkout as part of our holiday package through TUI, which was confirmed by a male receptionist over four days in advance as we know that at times we may need to move to another room. He agreed that the late checkout had been paid for and we had the room until 6pm. ||However, upon returning to our room day of checkout to collect my wallet at lunch time we found a note asking us to contact reception. When we did, we were informed that our room had been sold and we needed to vacate immediately. When I raised the issue of having confirmed the late checkout with reception, the female manager became defensive and dismissive, even implying that I was lying.|The experience was rushed and intimidating, with staff knocking on our door when we were trying to vacate and urging us to hurry. |We were offered an apartment room outside of the hotel which was a few blocks down. There were two flights of stairs with no lift when carrying cases, which was unacceptable given the circumstances.||Tui rep at this hotel was very unhelpful.||Given the stark contrast to our first stay, I would not recommend this hotel to others and will definitely not be...
Read moreI have rated 1* to hotel and service Let me explain why: We have booked via Booking.com a room in Melissi Hotel Beach in Ayia Napa Cyprus. As soon as we arrived, they said, your room is Not a room in the hotel but 200m away. We walked there to find out an old building, old shower, old everything that was not what we paid for! We called Booking.com who mentioned a third party "Bedsonline" and they could not help us We asked for our money back from the Hotel and they refused due to the third party!! Again Bedsonline We were charge 140 euros On the hotel receipt we saw a note of 96 euros cost!! What is going on??? Who takes the money and why nobody takes responsibility? An unhappy client Bedsonline you are a fraud Booking.com if we booked via your website YES you are responsible Hotel management: YES if you advertise through various website and we can book via other parties YES you are responsible too
The apartments: the apartments located not in the main building, they are in 100-200 meters approx from the main entrance. No views! they are old and they are definitely not 4-star hotel, do not mislead the customers what we have noticed during our stay, the hotel practices over booking and tries to settle new comers to the apartments even though guest have booked the main building. Then, guests have to negotiate or even pay more for the better settlement. And Yes we did pay more for not ruining our vacation and yes your reception manager was not flexible at all. Obviously because we are not the only ones complaining about this. She kept repeating that if we booked via other agents we should talk to them! She kept showing a paper where it was written STUDIO STANDARD! She kept repeating there was nothing she could do, after a while she said there are no rooms available, after a while of discussion and pressure she said if we wanted to move within the main area we should have paid extra, and then she added that if we wanted to take that room we should have waited because it wasn't ready. Local time 14.30!! Isn't normal check in at 14.00? SO BE AWARE EVERYONE THAT STUDIO STANDARD are the additional apartments that don't worth going. Guests of the apartments are not informed that it is not the main building till they arrive at the reception. To sum up, the hotel is good to stay but not in the apartments. The management needs to invest on TRAINING AND EDUCATING PERSONNEL how to welcome the guests How to assist the guests How to try and listen to the guests Be honest with the guests
Hope this constructive...
