The hotel is brilliant. The rooms are spacious, the beds are comfy, and the location is about as good as it gets. We stayed for a week in one of the junior suites and had amazing public transport connections to both the airport and the city. The bathroom facilities are excellent and the bath big enough for two. The mattresses were high end and we slept like babies. Despite being next to a main road, the windows are very well insulated and so noise isn't an issue - this is the same with interior insulation, no noise from other rooms or the atrium made it's way in at night.
The let downs with this hotel are mainly the quality of the staff. The staff are all lovely people and are trying their best, but we felt the standard of training was not what we would expect from a 5* hotel. From simple things like housekeeping wearing leggings and a sports jacket rather than a uniform (not a big deal but again, 5*) to wait staff who were clearly lacking in etiquette training, both at breakfast and dinner.
We tried the restaurant once, the food was delicious, and we were happy with the prices in comparison to UK standards, but not in comparison to what we ate elsewhere throughout our stay. The waiter was a young man who seemed happy enough tending a bar, but lacked knowledge in food service. We had to wait 10 minutes for the week's menus to be rewritten in English, now this would normally be fine but we weren't told this until they were done. This is a hotel that hosted MANY English speakers, and so it is fair to expect an English menu, as every other bit of paperwork provided to us was given in English. We were beginning to think we had been forgotten about (the restaurant was empty at the time and we had sat outside) and contemplated leaving - clearly this did not set a good tone for the rest of the meal. When the food came it was wonderful, the head chef clearly knows what he is doing and the website says as much. When my partner had finished his food and I was still eating, the waiter took his bowl/plate. This happened with both the starter and main. Between this and not informing us of the wait for a menu, we weren't happy that we had received a 5* service at this meal, and as such we did not have dinner at the hotel again. At breakfast, the coffee machine had clearly not been dialed in. The flat white cups were being overfilled 80% of the time and the cappuccinos were always cold, with a foam head that was far too thick. It was also an entry level machine, meaning the milk tank was tiny and kept running out and someone had to take the grounds container away regularly, meaning the machine couldn't be used. The bread on offer was quite stale and some of the ingredients in the cooked breakfast were either odd or cooked badly. The beans were the main culprit, being incredibly dry and tasting of very little - a different type of bean is clearly needed and yet they were served like this every day. The bacon was also badly cooked, being burned on the edges and almost raw in the middle. The fruit offer was quite frankly abysmal, with mushy watermelon and very underripe pineapple being the only cold fruit available. On the flip side, the pastries and pancakes were delicious, so we never went without a proper breakfast.
The cleaning staff did a decent job, however they kept leaving our towels in odd places, like putting the bath towels next to the bidet.
The last major grievance with the hotel is the toiletry provision. The website advertised luxury toiletries. This is not the case. 4 tubes each were provided: Body wash, shampoo, conditioner, and lotion. The lotion left our hands feeling drier than before it was applied, the shampoo and conditioner were atrocious, and only the body wash did a decent job. The obsession with small tubes here has ruined the quality, and we both feel that larger bottles of quality hair products would have massively improved the experience of showering here.
On the whole, this is a good hotel. Just a few things (mainly staff training) that need fixing to make this a true...
Read moreBeautifull Hotel near prague Castle, the room we were in was the Junior suite in room 501 and was really huge, with a nice hot tub and a comfy bed. Unfortunately there was no real view to speak off, since we were in the top floor and windows to the tree side. There was also a towel heater in the bathroom, but it didnt seem to function, or i didnt know how to turn it on.
Breakfast was great, with alot of variety. Although the coffee didnt really taste like coffee, and this comes from a guy who drinks latte machiatto.
The spa area is also really nice. We went for an hour in the private jacuzzi in the basement. Which was a really nice addition to our trip. Unfortunately it is now by booking only. The last time i visited, it was still free. Nevertheless the price was ok and did not regret it. The spa and expedition lady at the frontdesk was also really helpful and gave us lots of tips on how to get around Prague.
The restaurant was a hit and miss, literally. We had a half board with our hotel booking. So we had 2 diners with our 2 nights stay. Both diners were a bit a let down. On our first day, we had the ceasar salad, which was fine. Then came the main dish. For me it was the braised beef with dumplings. The beef was really dry and the dumplings were just ok-ish. The dessert was Creme Brulee, can't really go wrong here.
The second day i had the smoked trout fillet. Although the flavour was good. Half of my trout fillets were filled with fishbones, which i believe should not happen with a fillet. The waiter also did not mention anything while picking up my plate and seeing the fishbones. As i'm not a person who likes to complain verbally, i did not say anything at that time.
Besides this, my girlfriend asked for the ingredients of the soup of the day which was a "vegetable soup". They could not answer this question. This seemed very strange and unprofessional to me.
After this there was a small accident that occured while the waiter was cleaning the table next to us. He spilled a big chunk of sauce on the floor, our table, the window and on my girlfriends pants. After this occured, another waiter came to clean up the floor, but didn't really seem to notice my girlfriend and what had happened on our table and did not seem to care.
I understand that mistakes happen and plates occasionally fall on the floor. This is not the problem, but the way it was handled afterwards, was to my opinion not 5 star worthy.
Lastly i found the service to feel a bit rushed. They wanted to have our full order from the start. After suggesting to choose the dessert later, the waiter told us, that he didnt know if he would have time later to take our order. Maybe a misstranslation, but it seemed very unfriendly.
Overall my stay in the Hotel was still a solid 4*. But i would not recommend the half board after experiencing my...
Read moreJust back from a 3 day stay at this beautiful hotel. Staff couldn't do enough from booking to arrival and departure. Was greeted by reception and then Nicoll who greeted us with a glass of prosecco and sat us down to help and guide us through our stay. So informative and such a special touch!||We had booked through a 3rd party but noticed that the hotel had an option of luxury rooms. We emailed and asked if room 402 was available for upgrade and advised it was. Had a little issue with an over booking but that was not a problem. Ended updating 2 nights in this room the "Ying and Yang" room that was over 2 floors. Gorgeous with huge hot tub, fully stacked mini bar, fruit and chocolates on arrival. Last night was in the "Suite of love" 401 with the biggest round bed I've ever seen. Again with fully stocked bar, chocolates and prosecco.||Included in the stay was a 60 min private session in the spa which Nicoll added in a bottle of prosseco which was another lovely touch.||Breakfast was an array of foods, every thing fresh and wholesome. Very tasty!||Location was spot on for us. Situated at the bottom of the castle and within walking distance to almost everything.||If booking tours I recommend you speak to Nicoll. We had a 4 hour walking tour that included food and beer and took you off the VERY busy tourist track and showed you more of the authentic side of Prauge . Our tour guide Jakob was fantastic!||Will we return??...
