Staff is lovely (especially at the restaurant). Breakfast was simple but fresh and I personally saw staff doing their best to accommodate special requests. ||There are a few issues, though. The tower that looks the nicest on the outside actually has the oldest rooms (and vice versa). These rooms (new or old) have no soundproofing at all. All floors are tiled instead of carpeted, so you have to be ready to hear every single (loud) step of every single person coming and going. You can also see visible gaps between the door and its frame, so all noise imaginable will always travel to/from your room. I had a major issue in my room and they switched me to a different one, which I appreciated.||The area left a lot to be desired. I wouldn't label it as 'unsafe' but during the day it was packed with traffic, including old buses and lots of pollution. After dusk, you will barely see any people around and have to be EXTREMELY careful with reckless drivers who simply don't care about running over pedestrians (although that could be said of anywhere around the city). Even locals told me to be extremely careful when in that area (and I'm Latin American, so I'm quite familiar with the difference between real risk vs. perceived risk). The amazing Mercado Artesanal is a short walk away and that's probably the only highlight of this part of the city. ||Overall, anywhere around La Carolina or Iñaquito stations will give you a much nicer experience, or the old town (San Francisco station), if you're into historic buildings...
Read moreThis is a good hotel that I have used several times on my trips to Quito. Good location, spacious rooms, good service. But there are two things that I cannot understand why they are missing. The rooms do not have a mini refrigerator to store drinks or water to keep cool, or food from spoiling. Some of the bare bones hotels all over Ecuador manage to put a mini fridge in their rooms. I can't understand why Reina Isabel doesn't have it. Just to get an ice bucket with ice, I have to go to the restaurant. Wouldn't need to do this if they had a refrigerator.
Second, is it too expensive to put a clothes hanger hook inside the bathroom? Like behind the door for when you are changing in the bathroom. The only options right now are on the sides of the bathroom sink (which might be wet), on the towel rack above the toilet bowl, on the floor, or try your luck with the bathroom door knob to hang your clothes.
Finally, the half shower glass concept never works for most bathrooms. Some water always splashes out. No water should splash out from any shower stall. A 3/4 glass enclosure would be better. By the time I finished my shower in La Reina, the floor outside was puddling with water. I hope to see these changes nice time I visit. Hope someone is listening and can do something for these simple...
Read moreAfter much researching I decided to make the Reina Isabel the base of operations for my girlfriends and my Quito adventure. Firstly, the location of this establishment is top notch. You are throwing distance from many a bar and eatery and there are also a lot of night clubs in the vicinity as well. Service at the hotel is also 5 stars. The front desk was beyond helpful and you can depend on them to get the job done and then some whenever you need assistance. The restaurant on site has good food but I will admit you can find better and cheaper selections in the neighboring community. Also, the complimentary breakfast which is also served at the restaurant is your basic cold continental breakfast aside from a pan of scrambled eggs. Although the coffee and tea that come along with it are well appreciated. Finally as to our room. I opted for the premier suite and was allocated one on the 2nd floor. Size wise I would have liked the room to be a bit bigger it was a shade under 500 square feet. However, the restroom was top class with a great shower and a two person jacuzzi tub which was a very relaxing way to end our evenings. So all in all 5 stars to the Reina Isabel, while there may be fancier hotels to be had in Quito this establishment makes up for it with there superior service...
