I stayed at the Bonaventure on a business trip for about 2 weeks. All of Quito was full and this was the only place I could find that seemed reasonably priced and at a good location. Well, as they say, location, location, location. The hotel is very near all the attraction you might want to see particularly if you are a foodie, Plaza Foch is 2-3 blocks away and there are many great restaurants there as well as clubs and tiny pubs. Also, practically round the corner is the Fried Bananas restaurant, a gem of a restaurant. To the south, about a 15 minute walk on the main street is El Ejido Park that has amazing arts and crafts for sale from local artisans. ||The hotel however is not a quiet place to rest. Noise levels can be high especially on Saturday nights when Quito is alive till very late (or early Sunday). The restaurant provides a very decent breakfast, with fresh squeezed juices. However, if you are not an early riser, and have an inward facing room, you will be woken by all the clatter of cutlery and conversations going on at breakfast.||The rooms are clean and well maintained but do need a fresh coat of paint. The small size of the hotel means you get to meet and interact with new people quite easily especially at the reception area and at breakfast. But the real charm to this hotel is its owners. The place is run by a family that takes exceptional pride in their duties and are a wonderful and...
Read moreThis was my last weekend in Quito and I wanted lodgings close enough to Plaza Foch so as to be able to enjoy a party weekend. It turns out that Hotel Bonaventure's location is both a blessing and a curse. It was close enough to the Plaza to be able to get to all the nightspots and drinking establishments that I was looking to frequent. But it was also directly above (well, beside) a bottle-o, over the road from a popular corner for working ladies, and on a reasonably busy street. Add to this, the windows being porous because of their design, and well, not much sleep was possible on Saturday night. The solution was to go out all night, and I have to say that Sunday night was much calmer.||The good: the people who worked there were friendly.|The bad: my room was not cleaned prior to my arrival. This was rectified the next day, but I have no stock with properties that don't clean rooms before admitting guests. I had booked in advance, and arrived in the evening, so there was no excuse for the disgusting state of the floor of both my bedroom...
Read moreMy first night in Quito, Ecuador was spent here sharing a "double" room because my travel guide failed to make reservations. The next day, my friend moved into a single and I took over the "double".While, out sightseeing for the day, the hotel staff took the liberty of moving all my possessions to a single as a couple had arrived and needed a double. THE AUDACITY of the hotel to do this without first consulting me, was quite upsetting. The single was two stories higher and the hotel has no elevator. The new room had a glass wall facing a light corridor that extended from the roof to the first floor and opened to each floor, The sounds of anybody talking on the landings of each floor echoed up the corridor.I am usually a sound sleeper but was not able to get a sound night's sleep in this room as any sounds in the hotel were amplified through the light corridor ALL NIGHT LONG.The hotel is cheap and is located in a great area of Quito, but with my experiences with this hotel, I can't...
