A true gem of a place! The reception and entire management team make you feel like family. It's an absolute delight! If you're looking for a clean, conveniently located spot within walking distance to basically everything, this might be the ideal place for you. However, it's noisy, especially on weekends due to a nearby bar. If you're sensitive to sound, I wouldn't recommend it. But if you're not, and you want the best service in Galapagos and a super clean place, this is perfect.
They have the best hot water showers I've experienced in all of Galapagos. Most hostels have electric showers to heat water, but here it's boiling hot water—perfect during the colder months of June, July, and August. I highly recommend it if you dislike cold showers.
I was especially impressed by the treatment I received from the guy at the reception, who is also the owner. He immediately explained everything I could do, how to do it, and how to save money. It was fabulous! They also helped with my luggage, which was wonderful, and I always felt safe thanks to the lockers.
They always did their best to accommodate us, even when the shared room was full, by opening other rooms for us. It was all fantastic. Truly the best in Puerto Ayora, mainly because of the location, cleanliness, and outstanding customer service....
Read moreI was GRANDPAcking through the Galapagos and stayed 2 nights in Puerto Ayora.||I booked myself into a Double Room (single occupancy) at the Hostal Gardner which was located in a central part of town. I paid a discounted rate of $26.70 / night.||The room was large and came with a decent wardrobe.||Many of the light bulbs didn''t work.||It had cable TV with all Spanish speaking channels with no other language options (so, useless to me). ||The ensuite was ‘tight’. You had to sit on the toilet slightly side-ways.||The ‘hot water’ shower was unreliable. On my 1st night I couldn’t get a constant setting and fought between cold and boiling water. On my 2nd night, there was no hot water at all.||Even though I requested good in-room wifi when I booked (I need it for my work), my in-room wifi was useless and unusable. The wifi in the Common Areas was no better.||The blanket on my bed was so thin that I couldn’t sleep on my first night – I was too cold. The aircon did not heat. For my 2nd night I asked for another blanket.||The included Breakfast of eggs, bread, coffee and juice was served in the rooftop terrace. Extra cups of coffee were 50c each.||All-in-all, this hostal was ‘average’...
Read moreI stayed here for 6 nights. I was gone for most of the day every day which made this place bare able. I was in room number 8 it always had a smell to it of mold. The lady that cleaned the room always opened the window, I didn’t feel comfortable leaving open since it was covered by a slightly off center screen that lead straight to the hallway. Easy for someone to climb in. The bed had sheets on it and a blanket I’m not sure has ever been washed. It was cheap, $25 a night for my own room and bathroom. The room mostly seemed clean, floor was sticky. The front desk was helpful arranging things. Don’t even try the internet it never worked for me. Breakfast was okay. They never had cushions on the chairs on the rooftop deck even though they showed them in the pictures. The shower never seemed to have hot water either. The second floor was fairly quiet and the room was quiet except when people were walking up and...
