3.5 STARS Here’s my detailed take on this hotel, keeping in mind I’m pretty forgoving. Some expectation management will go a long way when visiting Cairo and Giza. The good: they provide free transfer from the airport (took us about 30 minutes at 4 in the morning, long trip. Our guy Sleb? waited a lot with the plane delay, he was very nice and didn’t expect anything from us - tipped him more that the actual ride would cost, no regrets, very good man) staff is very nice. The hotels provides breakfast with view of the pyramids on the terrace up top (great view). Food is decent, no fresh coffee, just nescafe instant coffee. Room was pretty clean, had some complementary water, tea and instant coffee packs and an electri kettle (convenient - bring your own coffee!). You can see the pyramids from the balcony and can take very nice pics.
The not so good: here are some things to keep in mind: Some rooms overlook the pyramids and some don’t have windows at all. Both have cons, while having an ancient wonder outside your window is amazing, the windows are pretty badly done. The room has 3 huge sliding doors, but they don’t seal, meaning you have great lighting and view from inside but at night it will be pretty cold and you will hear everything. I cannot stress this enough, EVERYTHING. Cairo is one of the biggest cities in the world and traffic is a lot more intense than you can imagine (in front of the hotel there are 11 lanes in total and they ar full non-stop). You’ll immediately find out that honking is as common as breathing in Cairo and Giza so from the early hours of the morning and very late into the night you will not count to 10 seconds without hearing a car horn. If your a light sleeper, the windowless rooms might suit you better. Fawcett had barely any pressure, shower was fine though Other than that, most of the city is very rundown, so don’t expect your pyramid view to be perfect. By my estimation I’d say that over 90% of the buildings are incomplete, so make of that what you will. There was no cleaning or towel change during our stay, but we didn’t ask so they will probably do it if you tell them. Lastly, an important aspect, we booked our stay through Booking.com and the day after arrival we got an email for “no show”. That’s very common in some countries, basically no one gets penalized because the place has a flexibe cancellation policy, but the hotel did save the 15% comission to the site (probably to cover the free transfer and other expenses). If you care about that, ask for an...
Read moreWe landed at 10.30pm at night and was waiting for our taxi. Had to use someone else's phone to phone hotel and find out they do not have a taxi as they lost the contract they had with taxi firm. Gave us a sob story about how their business can close any day. We had 2 young children with us and it was late. At no point were we informed that we would not be getting our taxi via WhatsApp before arriving . We had to take another taxi and arrive at the hotel nearly 1am. When we checked in, we were told we are not getting the room we initially booked which was a suite with city view. We got a standard room on 5th floor with a 'garden view' . Sayeeds 'cousin' was rude and spoke over us in another language to someone else. Also said we can cancel our booking but we did not as it was very late and children needed to sleep. The view we got was not a garden, in fact it was a junk yard with rubbish. The hotel WiFi was very bad. The hotel was very noisy. We can hear people in the corridor and upstairs in the 6th floor where the reception was. On the first night, one of the cleaners was playing loud music in the room next door. I opened the room door, and he quickly switched the music off and started to spray the middle of the corridor, pretending to clean. This was at 3am. The towels looked discoloured. There were hair on our beds. We did not book any tours with them as we did our research beforehand. It is cheaper to get a local taxi outside to take you to the pyramids. On the day we checked out, sayeed lied and said he did send a taxi to the airport when we arrived and we did not wait around for taxi when in fact his cousin said there is no taxi linked to the hotel and sayeed said on the 2nd day they do not have any taxi so why did he lie? . The hotels taxi service dropped us back to the airport who told us sayeed is not even the manager. So at this point we don't even know if they actually lost the contract with the taxi company or not. Just save your money and go with someone who shows good customer service and...
Read moreCant beat the price for the pyramid view! Pyramid eyes: Superior Queen Room with Pyramid View. Positives: The staff, nice and friendly. Wanting to speak english and practice. Hot and cold options for breakfast, spacious room and bathroom, outlets on both sides or the bed, view, location, AC or heat, laundry less than 1 egyptian pound per item. They have change for big bills! Airport pick up free, $25 (400egp) for drop off. Our pick up driver Abdul was a blast! And our drop off drive taught us more arabic and we read licence plate arabic numbers in English. The guy at the counter I cant remember his name, hes only been speaking english for 1 year. We chatted for a long time and he also taught us some new arabic and I tried to remember words I had learned. Good price per night for pyramid views. They offer tours. We did the nile cruise Dinner which was entertaining and filled some free time we had.
If you have always dreamed of making love while looking at the pyramids this could work if you're brave. Its more like an airbnb or a hostel then a hotel. Can't beat the price for that georgous view!! If you're on the fence, book it! Its a few nights and the place you're sleeping shouldn't make or break your trip. Negatives: Not a private balcony, people can sit outside your room or look in if the curtain is open. They didnt change the garbage or clean the room the three days we were here. We had to ask for more toilet paper and tea. The hot water runs out after 3 minutes. The only way we could shower was wet your hair and face, turn the water off, wash hair and face, turn water on to rinse quickly. Turn water off and wash body. Turn water on to rinse body and have time to spare. Wait 40-60 minutes in between people showering. Air is in the pipes too. They didnt know why our water heater wasnt holding more hot water and said this wasnt normal. 22 liter tank. As someone said before not a 5 star hotel but the...
