Avoid.
Let me start with the positives - the booking process was painless and smooth. On the other hand, judging from what I have seen later, it might have been so only because I booked my stay thru a third party. My heart leapt when I was approaching the lovely looking building which is housing the hotel and sunk just a little when I saw the state of disrepair of the door. Could be just me but I would not want to give the first impression of my hotel by its front door which is apparently falling apart. The check-in process was smooth but you know that something is quite wrong with the place when you are witnessing a scene where a rather agitated guests is complaining about her room “not looking the same as on the Internet”. So I went to my assigned cell (I refuse to use the word “room’ to describe it). As I was walking there it actually looked quite promising. I was assigned cell 003 located in the basement and must say I have quite enjoyed my short walk to the cell. I opened the door and peered inside. The cell consisted of a two single beds pushes together, one desk and one chair. There floor space was so limited that you had a choice of either pushing the chair under the desk and squeezing between the desk and the bed or putting the chair sideways next to the desk and blocking any possible movement. There was actually no way to use the desk, there was no way to walk, move or turn without bumping into one of the three items in the room. There was nothing else in the room but it’s hardly surprising - there was no space for anything else. For some reason, which I have never discovered, the cell was at least five degrees (centigrade I hasten to add) warmer than the rest of the hotel and the outside temperature. Probably more than five degrees as it was really quite warm at night which made it difficult to sleep. I have quickly decided to go to the front desk and make enquires about it and about a possible upgrade to another room but as I arrived there another unhappy customer was complaining about his room to rather bored looking and uninterested looking group of three employees. I’ve decided not to proceed with any enquires and gave up immediately. After returning to the room I have discovered that the only window is pretty much inaccessible from the inside but it can be opened and closed from the outside – it was located about knee high facing a busy street. During my first night a rather drunk Russian took some interest in it, apparently thinking that the room to which it belonged was occupied by a Russian lady he knew (not sure about that really but I’m sure he was drunk, loud and rather insistent about playing with my windows). After the first night I was somewhat apprehensive when I directed my steps to the breakfast room, as it turned out – rightly so. I don’t mind tasteless food as long as it’s plentiful and filling but if I was to use a single word to describe breakfast in that place it would be simply “vile”. I really don’t want to waste too much of my time describing the amazing delicacies on offer but the highlights include – half disabled coffee machine flashing “change filter”, baked beans from a budget brand (I’m guessing), some kind of egg-related dish (it could have been an attempt at scrambled eggs but for some reason there were cut into regular squares, served almost cold and required a steak knife to cut thru them.
As I understand any criticism should be softened by including two positive comments. Well, I opened with a positive and I will close with one. Tallinn is a beautiful city and I am sure it has plenty of...

I never leave negative reviews, but my experience at Gotthard Hotel Tallinn was so appalling that I felt compelled to warn others.
First and foremost, the customer service at reception is beyond shocking. When I raised a serious security concern—that the room lock doesn't work from the inside, meaning anyone could barge in while we’re asleep—the receptionist refused to take it seriously. Not only did he dismiss my concern rudely in front of other guests, but he couldn't even be bothered to get up from his chair. Completely unprofessional and utterly disrespectful.
As for the room itself—an absolute disgrace. The moment we entered, we were hit with a putrid smell, like something had died in there. There was no ventilation in the bathroom, and to top it all off, we found the toilet seat uncleaned, clearly used by previous guests. Hygiene standards are clearly nonexistent.
The bed was so tiny, it’s a miracle anyone could turn in their sleep without falling off. For the price we paid, this is not just disappointing—it’s a complete rip-off.
If you value your safety, comfort, and dignity, stay far away from this place. Tallinn is beautiful, but this hotel is a stain on its...
Read moreWhen we arrived in the late evening 8th December 2017 and the hotel knew we would arrive late, we were told that the rooms we had booked in June were not available, but that the Gotthard Residents Hotel would transfer us to another hotel which they would pay for. We waited nearly half an hour for the taxi to arrive which drove us far from the town centre where we wanted to be, and we were taken to a hotel which was on the coast, and designed for beach holidays. The following day, we had to pay for breakfast in our changed hotel, which had been included in the price of the Gotthard. Booked by Expedia, Expedia was helpful when I asked if we could be transferred to a centrally located area as we wanted to see various attractions there. Expedia rang me an hour or so after I contacted them, saying they had no response from Gotthard who would not pick up the phone. As Expedia could not confirm the situation, they could not help, so we were obliged to stay in the replacement hotel. We returned to Gotthard and asked why they had not answered the telephone. The receptionist said he was busy and he had no authority to do anything for us. The visit to Tallinn was ruined. One star has to be given to post this review but I would leave...
