The Three Sisters does not live up to the Relais & Châteaux brand and I think it's status under that hotel chain should be reevaluated, though perhaps if I hadn't previously stayed at R&C hotels my expectations wouldn't have been so high. Still, it's a very nice average hotel in a gorgeous city.
The building itself is stunning and beautifully done. Our room, Junior Suite 28, was spacious and comfortable, though some of the furniture (couch and chair) were very worn and dated. The bed was large and comfortable enough, but did not have luxury bedding or pillows.
The bathroom situation was a bit odd. There was the toilet room with a sink by the entrance to the room and a second bathroom with a tub, shower, and sink in the main part of the room. When we arrived, the toilet room had hand towels at the sink. By the 2nd of 4 nights, the towels were gone. When we asked the front desk why our towels were not replaced, we were told that each room gets one set of towels. We requested the towels be replaced and they finally were, but that's not something we should have to ask for. The water pressure in the shower was very weak and disappointing. When toilet paper was finished, they did not replace the rolls.
Also, all of the towels have a hotel's logo embroidered on them. I brought my own towel for my hair and left it hanging one day. There is a framed sign in the bathroom that hanging towels will not be replaced. Sure enough, my towel was taken. I'm willing to take some of the blame because it's a white towel (albeit, no logo and hanging). Getting the towel back was much more of a hassle than it should have been and although I got it back washed, that outcome was uncertain until it was in my hand, as they couldn't promise they would clean it (after mixing it in with all the hotel laundry).
Breakfast was included in our rate. The offering did not vary day to day but had adequate variety. There was an option to order eggs or pancakes, but the cooking was inconsistent day to day. One day the eggs were delicious, the next they felt like rubber discs. The breakfast service was also inconsistent. When the juice ran out, I let the waitress know when I was back at my table. The juice was filled, but no one brought any to the table. If we ordered tea, a chipped teapot was delivered, but not poured. These are not traits of a luxury hotel. Also, and worst of all, I found hair in one of the breakfast salads.
We did not eat in the restaurant for dinner because the menu was not appealing at all.
As for location, the hotel is situated at the north end of Old Town next to Fat Margaret. It was far enough from the main square to be relatively quiet but close enough to walk to everything quickly, including areas outside of Old Town like Kalamaja.
The Three Sisters is a perfectly adequate hotel. When we brought our complaints to the front desk, the staff seemed baffled as to how to respond. I think that as Estonia's tourism grows, the finishing touches on service will make their way into the hotels.Right now, everything seems a bit unpolished and to call this hotel luxurious would...
Read moreExceptional service from the duty manager!! We booked a table for dinner for 6 people on a Sunday eve, before our ferry back to Helsinki . During dinner we got an sms from Nordic line (terrible - avoid) saying our ferry was cancelled. We were offered no alternatives and phones were not being manned due to it being a Sunday. We were a bit panicked because we had to get back to catch various international flights from Helsinki and all our belongings were there too. The incredibly helpful manager, Daniel / Tanel jumped into action and called around all the contacts and companies and found is the last seats on an alternative ferry (the last one leaving Estonia!!) and took our passports and credit cards and painstakingly booked each of us on and paid and checked us in !! It was extraordinary. We were able to enjoy our dinner without worrying and managed to make our flights. It was above and beyond normal...
