We went as a family to Chedi simply because they are maybe the only place in Estonia with some form of Hong Kong style dim sum/點心, at least as far as I can tell. The dim sum appears to be limited to a couple offerings on their menu though. The first option is a seafood and shrimps steamed dumpling set and the other is a mushroom and vegetables steamed dumpling option. The shrimp dumplings in particular could easily be served in Guang Dong, China itself. The restaurant environment is decorated with a lot of effort too. They went as far as to build a scale model of a Cambodian style pagoda at the entry to the banquet seating area. If environment is important to you, then Chedi will not fail you. If the ambience isn't enough to impress you, and your likely well-off dining mates, then the opportunity to splurge on champagne that costs hundreds of euros will at least be something to point at. Not to deprecate from the great duck (a valiant and tasty effort at a Peking roast duck, complete with Chinese crepe-pancakes) and pork (sweet and sour boneless short rib) dishes that we had, because those were very good, but the prices are through the roof: don't even bother showing up unless you just got paid or hardly ever look at the bill before paying. This one is for the ballers...
Read moreThis is one of my and my kids favorite restaurants. I have been there maybe 20 times. Only problem is that I have tried everything but always come back to basics. We always get multiple honey pork and couple spicy chicken. I always try something else but absolute favorite is Honey pork. Also they have made change in spicy chicken and now chili is in small pieces and it used to be whole or splitted parrot chili. I think change makes it more stable dish as chili is everywhere but at same time one can't have less spicy and other more. Japanese style in restaurant is very nice and even wc is beautifull. Kids like to have spinning table so it easy to share food. Wine list is great and you can even get Mojito if you like. You can order food with delivery service and restaurant is usually open quite late. When you stay in Tallink spa or Kalev spa restaurant is really close as it is only short walk into old city. I just miss same restaurant chains restaurant Bocca that used to be...
Read moreI went the with my family (myself, my fiancee and our two young children). The staff were friendly and very accomodating. They had a prepared menu to cater for my shellfish allergy, not something you find all the time in Estonia.
To start, we had dim sum and calamari. The dim sum was OK, not spectacular, especially given the relatively high price. Although I couldn't try the calamari myself, owning to my shellfish allergy, my better half tells me it was spectacular.
To follow, I had venison, which was, in all honesty, one of the finest plates of food I have had the pleasure of eating since I arrived in Estonia; really, very nice indeed. They provided our 2 year old with a child friendly chicken and rice dish that was also very tasty (she ate the lot).
It was certainly pricey, but, that said, the food and service was certainly of a very high standard.
4 stars, rather than 5, because my dim sum was a little bit...
