We booked an apartment in Les Montagnettes for a group of eight adults, and enjoyed an excellent week in Val Thorens.||||Firstly to the accommodation itself. We found it to be very good value for money. We wanted somewhere near the slopes, with proper bedrooms so we didn't have anyone sleeping on a sofa bed in the living room, and for it to be comfortable and reasonably well equipped. We were here to ski, not to indulge hours away in five star luxury, and that is exactly what we got.||||Our apartment, No:15, was set over four floors. The bottom floor contained a boot room with sufficient blowers and space for skis and sticks, plus a bench. Adjacent was the sauna, used on the first day to dry ski kit that had been soaked in the rain, but then used for its intended purpose by a number of our team. Next to the sauna was a shower, convenient for those using the first floor bedrooms.||||So the the first floor bedrooms. One double and one twin (the double perhaps being the premier room with views to the ski slopes). Comfortable beds, lots of storage (not always the case we have found in French accommodation) and places to hang clothes. In-between, two en-suite bathrooms and a loo.||||Next up, the living space, containing the kitchen, dining area and living area, with a second exit to external steps (I guess in case of emergency). The kitchen was pretty well equipped, with sufficient plates, cutlery, glasses etc for eight. Funnily enough, we missed a can opener, so if you are bringing some of your own stuff to self-cater, be warned. The large fridge and dish-washer were much appreciated.||||The dining area genuinely seats eight, so we could all dine together with no 'cheap seats'. And the living area was comfortable, with soft seating for six or seven (one has to use a dining chair) and a large coffee table. Large TV (rarely used) and expansive views to the ski slopes. WiFi was average (I mainly used 4G). Oh, and a private balcony.||||Top floor, two more (attic) twin-bedrooms of a decent size, with sufficient storage and of course en-suites.||||The staff were always very helpful, and a towel change service is provided on Wednesday.||||So on to the location. It really couldn't be much better! A short walk (
Read moreGroup of 7 stayed here for a week in January. ||||The apartments have recently been renovated/upgraded so there are newer utilities in the kitchen and furniture etc. However, the decorating job was very rough resulting in uneven paint lines all around the wooden beams/furniture. It also looked like the decorator cleaned their paintbrush off the lovely stone fireplace as there were grey streaks all over the side of it. ||||I requested a hairdryer three times over the week and was told that there was only one available and it was in use so I could not get one. To be paying such high rates for a “4* property” that doesn’t provide such a basic item is unacceptable. ||||Unfortunately the apartment was not cleaned to a high standard when we checked-in. We moved the living room couch to allow for more space and underneath the couch was a huge stain of something that had spilled and wasn’t cleaned up. There was also a slipped underneath the couch from a previous guest which illustrates the level of cleaning that is undertaken. ||||The conditions on the apartment are strict in terms of how a guest must clean it before departing, however in my opinion it appears that the staff then give it a very minimal clean afterwards and considering a cleaning fee is additional, this is unacceptable. ||||Check-out time is 10am which is a little early when relying on transfer but the staff did extend this to 10.30am. Check-in is also quite late, 5pm. ||||On the plus side: the kitchen is very well stocked if you intend cooking, all pots/pans/utensils were new. The location is second to none, two minutes from the slopes. Staff are friendly and quick to respond to emails when booking. Beds are very comfortable and it is great having two separate bathrooms on the lower floor. Plenty of hot water and powerful showers. Beautiful views...
Read moreBe careful when booking should you be less than six. We’ve booked a spacious and comfortable apartment with a view, two bedrooms and a cheminé for three guests, registering our dates four months in advance through the booking page. As we arrived, there was no view, no cheminé, a single and tiny bedroom and our small apartment (number 30 soleil 2 Val Thorens) was in the basement! It simply had nothing to do with the pictures and luxurious description on the webpage of Les Montagnettes. The direction kept pretending they were surprised and telling us that this is what we’ve booked for as we are less than 6 guests (still offering us to move to another hotel but much further and with additional costs), despite the fact that we saw that the same misadventure happened to other customers being allocated this famous apartment 30 in the past. Except the location (near the slopes), there is nothing to recommend except avoiding it. Furthermore, the apartment was far from clean at all as can be seen on pictures. At the end of the day, this has been the worst apartment we’ve ever booked in Val Thorens even though far away the...
