Le Vieux Chalet was supposed to be the final dinner of an amazing ski holiday in February 2024. We made the reservation two weeks beforehand to make sure we had a table for our fellowship of 6 people. The reservation was confirmed. In the beginning of the actual holiday week, we sent another mail to make sure our reservation was still valid. The restaurant confirmed. The night before our reservation, a reminder was sent from the restaurant, asking if we would still show up. We replied and confirmed that we would be present at the time of reservation.
The final evening, we arrived well in time at the restaurant, hoping for a delicious, local meal to end the holiday on a high note. When we entered, we were told that our reservation was canceled. Apparantly, two hours prior, they had sent a message with yet another reminder that had to be confirmed. Merely half an hour after the first message, they announced the cancelation by a second message. Since we were busy skiing and preparing for our departure the next day, we didn't check our phone in the 'half hour time window' they gave us. Besides, we were never told that yet another confirmation message would be sent the evening itself. We were coldly and cynically told that we should've replied, that our table was taken by other people and thus the restaurant was full. Arguing that we had already confirmed three times before was pointless. They didn't waste any time or eye contact, kept serving drinks for others and unkindly showed us the way out. We were shocked by their lack of hospitality, lack of understanding and rudeness, since we had never had any experience like this before.
In 2023, we did have dinner at the restaurant. The portions were small, waiting times were long, and those who ordered raclette were unable to enjoy since the electricity power kept failing. Anyone planning to have dinner here, should be aware of their weird reservation system and lack of hospitality. I highly recommend anyone to first try to make a reservation elsewhere, since there are many more and better restaurant opportunities in Val...
Read moreGorgeous traditional setting for a family meal HOWEVER unfortunately the overall meal was overpriced & the Infant menu was severely limited/tasteless - out of the two children’s choices my son had the Steak Hache with SIX precisely positioned chips. Normally, you wouldn’t have to think about counting the chips on a child’s plate but this was remarkable, even my son looked confused!? The hache itself was bland! My daughter had the only other option, pasta with ham. We were expecting a little French flare, a cheesy sauce maybe, something resembling a carbonara, Parmesan…but NO, it was exactly that, macaroni pasta with ham, that is all, pathetic! My 8 year old daughter didn’t want me to complain but wanted me to write this review, because in her words it was “C-R-A-P”. The infant meals were €15 each with ONE scoop of ice cream each, making €30 total!!?? Wow!?…The adults had a sharing charcuterie board to start, that was good, but you can’t go wrong. My wife’s main meal was the winner, veg lasagne, that was actually good! My braised Deer was ok, nothing spectacular, wish I’d had the fillet or rack of lamb! We then shared a bottle of Pinot Noir…All together the total price of the meal was €170!! Jee-wiz!! I’ve paid less at Cote Brasserie for 3 courses each!!!?? BEware!! The word for us is...
Read moreFirstly, although we had a reservation, the table that was given to us was very little and uncomfortable, with the table itself shaking every time someone was getting a bite, hence making it very annoying for our group of friends.
Secondly, when the food arrived 2 out of 8 dishes were wrong, compared to what we ordered. When addressing the waiter (Max) about it he said that it is our fault we did not speak clearly enough. Moreover, when asked to change the dishes he said it is impossible. Although the restaurant across the road, rated as cheaper and with fewer reviews did provide this service immediately without complaint.
Thirdly, we ordered raclette for 4 people, yet only one wheel of cheese was brought to the table with very little meat and potatoes. With 4 people waiting for one raclette to melt, the experience of dining in this restaurant became even more awful.
Last but not least, after all of the above, Max came by to ask if everything is ok. When our answer was “not really” the waiter started to shout at us saying that we are in no position to teach him his job.
Although food was indeed tasty, with such a poor customer service, this place is far from being called...
