Our stay started badly when we couldn't get into the hotel compound. The car gate was locked closed and, because it was dark, it took us some time to realise there was pedestrian access. Leaving the car parked on the road outside I went approached the hotel to discover a message on the automatic check-in saying it was broken and to ring a telephone number. I rang the number and gave my name and someone came to meet me and give me the number to open the car gate. By this time a queue had formed and because my car was parked in the gate (there is no other way to pull off the road) people behind were getting irate. The person who came to check us in was very nice, but by this time I was very wound up. It was late and exceptionally dark around the hotel (it did not feel safe, which was an issue because I was travelling with my elderly mother, who is not very mobile. I had to leave her in the car, while I went to try to check into the hotel.). It was only once we were checked into our rooms that the noise from the nearby road became apparent. One of the reasons for choosing this hotel was its proximity to the road, and having stayed at another hotel on the same site without any noise problems I had not expected this. However the layout of this particular hotel (outside corridors, with room doors opening onto outside walkways) meant there was no dampening of the sound from the road. I will not stay at this...
Read more[COUPLE] We stumbled upon this hotel as we were staying for a long weekend. It had a discount deal. Upon arrival, we met the friendly workers, explaining us all we had to know.
The Room. The first thing we noticed when entering the room, was the great smell of cigarettes. We have to tell the pictures don't show the reality, the room is smaller than expected. The rooms are absolutely not sound proof, there were lots of kids and even though the window/door was closed, you just heard every word perfect. The bed, like other reviewers mentioned, is very hard.
The Bathroom. Around 1m^2, the shower wasn't hot and the stream was weak. When opening this door for the first time, this huge.. urine (?) Just blasted through us. The whole room + bathroom smells.
Breakfast. Coffee machine was great and so were the croissants and bread.
Hygene. Normally I never make a topic on this, but the matress, sheets and pillow had stains and hair. I don't want to know from what, but this shouldn't be allowed in an hotel. Also the lack of a toiletbrush, could be a problem for some people. I am aware it is 1 star rated, but personal hygene should be number one. We were happy we had our...
Read moreJust returned from 4 nights here. No kettle, (coffee from machine when reception open (ie not between 9pm & 6am, or some hours during day)). No Security over night, so lose your key, have any problems, tough. Have stayed in others in this group and they were much better. Including the phrase 'First Class' in a hotel name implies it might be better than others in the group. That would be wrong here. Marketing slogan was 'Essentials for a Good Night'. Apparently hot drinks aren't included.||||Receptionist took it upon herself that I was part of a group, so harangued me for some misdemeanour, no clue what. Don't stop her leaving the place at 9pm, or you'll get called all sorts.||||Lots of the TV channels didn't work, just blank screen. No UK channels, not even Sky News or BBC News24, which has been on offer in other budget hotels.||||This was a 'Budget' hotel charging premium rates because of D-Day. Rack Rate was 150 Euros on the wednesday, but 75 by the Sunday. Both would...
