If you’re hesitant to stay here, it’s worry for nothing. We love this hotel and the staff. It’s a small family owned hotel. Every one of the desk clerks we’ve encountered were very efficient and friendly, they are making our stay a happy one. Currently undergoing renovation so the area where you’d have breakfast is closed for now, however, your breakfast is delivered to you from the hotel next door. Breakfast was plenty of fresh breads made in the morning, served hot, meats and fruit, along with delicious yogurt and scrambled eggs. Coffee and juice. We had so much food that we made sandwiches out of the bread and used them for our picnic lunch by the river today. Breakfast charge was $15 pp, however, we still have leftovers for breakfast tomorrow morning. So, a great deal. There is an elevator (lift), that is small. My sister and I and our 2 roller bags along with other smaller bags fit very well, but that’s all we needed too. Our room is a nice size for an authentic European hotel. The bed is very comfortable, and the linens are crisp and clean. The bathroom is a good size as well. There is a hair dryer, hot water kettle and a coffee maker. There is no microwave or small refrigerator, but I think that’s an American thing. There is an a/c unit on the wall but we’ve not needed to use it. The area we are in is one of the safest neighborhoods in Paris (or so we’ve been told) and we believe that, as we’ve walked up and down and around this neighborhood and never felt threatened, just a real pleasure. There are numerous cafe’s within the block with great service, foods and where you can enjoy sitting outside on the sidewalk while enjoying your break from touring. The Louve, Notre Dame are within 15-20 min walk and we walked to the Eiffel Tower this morning (maybe 2 miles). We did take a private car in from the airport as we did not wish to challenge our skills in finding this place by subway. So, hope this review helps you decide where to stay, we’d stay here...
Read moreWe enjoyed our stay at the Deux Continents. The location could not be better, the staff was. without exception helpful and courteous. The room and bath room were clean and perfectly designed in the sense that they had everything necessary in a hotel room, the interior desigh was done in very good taste.
However. We were not aware of the room option with or without elevator access and had a room two stories up, and that is up two flights of steps very narrowly constructed because of space problems. Carrying a heavy suitcase up these steps when you are 81 years old was a horrid experience. It was the same going down of course.
In addition. The toilet is separate from the bathroom and does not have a sink to wash your hands, and the bathroom is tiny, very very tiny, in spite of a comfortable shower niche. Everything in the bathroom was thought of, every inch of space efficiently used, but it was just barely possible to use. Would I be a 100 kg instead of a 65 kg person then I could not use the space available. And when you are using such a bath for 7 days and 7 nights then you are in considerable trouble. The space available for your toilet articles is minimal, virtually non-existent It appears that I could have chosen a more superior room, however at 235 Euro per day I was entitled to expect a somewhat superior accommodation. A toilet without a wash basin is simply unacceptable.
The restaurant, as you leave the hotel and turn left at the first intersection is tremendous, reasonably priced, always good food and superior, always incredibly friendly, service. This is not always the case in Paris. This in itself is sufficient reason to stay at the Deux Continents, just make certain to book a better (alas pricier) room, accessible by elevator. The latter a must if you are...
Read moreThe location is what makes this place worth It. Very easy to walk to multiple restaurants and easily walkable to a lot of the sight seeing locations. There are lots of small shops in the area and very close to the train. It's a clean and safe location of Paris. When we visit Paris this is def the part of Paris I would stay.
The hotel it self was ok. The rooms are very clean but small but spend more time out in Paris and less time in the room. The bathroom was nice and modern. Most of the staff were friendly. No fridge in the room (this was a bigger deal then what we thought since a lot of shops close early and we bought drinks and water from the grocery store but had no way of keeping them cool)
There was construction during our stay so we often heard construction noises from our room and the hallways smelled like wet paint a few days.
We put up the privacy tag on our door one day but the staff ignored it and came in anyway to clean our room. One evening after an entire day out we returned to our room to find the door not fully closed after it was cleaned by the staff, luckily nothing was stolen. Anyone could have just walked in and taken all our stuff.
One evening the power in half of our room went out, we assume it was a blown fuse since it came back by the morning but our TV went out and the outlet that our phones were plugged in died also. Glad we were awake still to figure it out or our phones would have been dead by morning.
I would def stay in this area of Paris. The hotel otherwise is not horrible but I would look to see what other options are available first before staying here again. But if the price is right I would...
