Our stay at Hôtel L’Échiquier Opéra Paris - MGallery was nothing short of exceptional. From the moment we arrived, we were treated with the utmost kindness and hospitality, making our experience truly memorable.
Exceptional Service: We arrived in Paris very early, around 8 AM, after a long flight from Seattle. By the time we reached the hotel shortly after 9:00 AM, we were exhausted. We knew that our room wouldn’t be ready until the afternoon, as the regular check-in time is 3:00 PM. However, the front desk receptionist went above and beyond by offering us a smaller room, free of charge, so we could take a quick shower, relax, and rest a bit before our booked room was ready. This level of kindness is rare these days, and we were incredibly grateful for their thoughtfulness.
Thoughtful Touches: We were traveling with our dog, and to our surprise and delight, the hotel staff found an old picture of our dog and created a personalized welcome sign for him! They also left treats in the room. This was such a sweet and unexpected gesture that made us feel so welcome and appreciated. The staff’s kindness extended to our dog as well, which meant the world to us.
Charming Decor and Atmosphere: The hotel’s décor is classic Art Deco, exuding a timeless elegance. We particularly loved the old-school elevator—our little dog had a great time riding them! Every corner of the hotel is filled with character and charm, enhancing our overall experience.
Outstanding Staff: Every person we encountered at the hotel was incredibly helpful and kind. We want to give a special thank you to Lise, who recommended a couple of restaurants that turned out to be fantastic. Her suggestions added to our wonderful time in Paris, and we truly appreciated her recommendation.
Delicious Breakfast: The breakfast at the hotel was excellent, with a huge selection of foods that were both delicious and fresh. We loved the variety of fresh juices and bakery goods, which were top-notch. The breakfast service was outstanding, with the staff being pleasant, friendly, and attentive throughout.
Overall Experience: We travel to Paris around twice a year, and this was one of the best hotel experiences we’ve had. We are incredibly grateful for the wonderful stay and the exceptional service we received. We will definitely be returning on our future visits to Paris. Thank you for making our stay so special!...
Read moreThe hotel is in a good neighbourhood, lacking any good restaurants. It's a close walk to Bonne Nouvelle metro - so that part was nice. We didn't include the breakfast, and they wanted €22 per person - which wasn't going to happen. It's been recently renovated, so everything looks nice, include the rooms. The bed was really comfortable, and room dark. Also one of the biggest bathrooms we had seen Paris, so it was a nice change.
When we stayed, the second night we were there we came back to the hotel around 5:00 PM for a shot nap before going to dinner. All a sudden a door bell rang. Confused, my husband got up to answer the door, and the person had already let themselves in. The minute my husband said something he ran out, and we couldn't see anyone in the hallways. We were worried someone had the ability to break into rooms so we reported it to reception, and they said there was no one in the building, and they didn't know. And did nothing about it. The next night the EXACT same thing happened again, except this time my husband got a look at the guy. We went to the front desk again to complain, and he looked into it and apparently it was an EMPLOYEE. He was "suppose" to put a breakfast card on our bed. At 5:00 PM? No idea why he had to be letting himself into our room that late in the day. The front desk said the would remind him that he was suppose to ring and WAIT before entering. That didn't really make us feel much better. Needless to say, it seemed very disorganized at the front desk, we never got to speak to management about it, and they did nothing to make it up to us for it. Grateful that we were dressed and awake when it happened - but it felt like a huge invasion of privacy. For that reason alone we wouldn't stay here again. It's a shame, because the place could have some potential. But coupled with a lack of great restaurants, we would stay in another area and in a hotel with better management and...
Read moreThis hotel located on a quiet non descriptive kind of road, only 5 mins walk from Bonne Nouvelle Metro and 10 mins from the Metro of Strasbourg St Denis. ||There are 6 floors, serviced by two lifts (elevators) one is a classic old fashioned metal cage type with swing door which runs up through the centre of the building, the other is a modern style enclosed model.||Rooms are quite well equipped with flat screen TV, fridge, kettle and coffee machine, hair dryer also provided. There was air conditioning in the room which seemed fairly effective.||We didn’t eat here in the evening but breakfast was included in our room price, and this was served in the restaurant which is very pleasant with a high pitched glass roof. There was a very good variety of breakfast available with all sorts of fresh pastries, cold meats, cheeses, yoghurts, cereals & breads. There was also a hot selection with scrambled eggs, veal sausage, baked beans, potatoes & bacon, although this wasn’t always kept very hot.||Just be aware that at the time of this review (May 2024) that the building directly opposite was under renovation, and our room at the front overlooked this, which felt a bit intrusive with workers on scaffolding etc, also there was some early morning noise.||There’s a good selection of cafes and brasseries nearby, some with late afternoon ‘happy hour’ offers, I think this was available between 4-7pm also there’s some convenience shops which sell snacks, soft drinks, beers, wines and toiletries etc.||On checking out we were hit by an unexpected charge for ‘taxe de séjour’ or tourist tax, (about 60 Euros for a 4 night stay) apparently this tax wasn’t included in the booking price, we were under the impression that our package was fully inclusive, so depending on which platform you are using to book any hotel in France, it’s worth checking if the tourist tax is included in the price to avoid a surprise when...
