The hotel is right next to the Metro (Gambetta) which is great! The staff are friendly. I felt safe there.|| The first room I was given was not nice. It had peeling wallpaper. I had to ask if there was another room available....which there was. Why do hotels persist in this rigmarole. Especially fobbing off rooms to lone travellers. Would it have been to difficult to give me the better room in the first place?||The new room tho small was clean, neat and tidy. The pipes do make a rather alarming noise....especially in the middle of the night which can be rather disconcerting. It was very clean and the chambermaid did a good job.||The sound proofing is not good but saying that I had a good nights sleep and the bed was very comfortable. There is a hairdryer in the bathroom but few toiletries...just soap and a minute sachet of shampoo.||I did not take breakfast so can't comment on that. I was visiting my daughter, who is staying in Paris. As she met me at the station she accompanied me to the room. This seemed to alarm the receptionist as I received a phonecall asking me if I knew I had booked a single room....well of course I did but it seemed to cause confusion if she came to the room with me! It made us feel uncomfortable.||All in all if I got a special deal I would stay there again but it is not what I would consider to...
Read moreI picked this hotel primarily because of its proximity to the world famous Père Lachaise Cemetery. Although I had been in Paris before, I had never visited this place where famous people like Oscar Wilde, Chopin and Jim Morrison are interred among many. Moreover, I had only a day in Paris as I was heading elsewhere. ||||The hotel is a three star place. Although nothing spectacular, I found the place extraordinarily clean and comfortable. If you are a light sleeper, I would ask for a room away from the street. Personally, I enjoyed hearing the noises of Paris streets as they lulled me into a slumber, while I imagined that I was in a Peter Seller movie with its police cars blaring their typical Parisienne sirens. The bathrooms were clean and basic. The queen/king sized bed was very comfortable with clean sheets and a very thick daown or faux-down comforter. Although the hotel has a restaurant, I would recommend an early evening stroll along the Rue des Pyrénées. You will come across a number of small shops selling fruits, groceries and find a lot of eateries and bars, where you will find people of the 20th arrondissement where this place is located. The crowds are jovial, friendly, full of life with families included. You can even practice your French with your neighbors as you dig into typical daily...
Read moreI chose this hotel because it was close to where my daughter is living and is well priced. But it turned out to be a good choice. It looks very modest and somewhat old-fashioned (the Jetson-family styled bar never had anyone in it) but the rooms were clean and serviced everyday. And the toilet and showers worked well. My room looked over Place Gambetta. I could open the windows and watch the world go by but when the double-glazed windows are shut there is no noise. I was also very impressed with the security system at the hotel and there is someone on the desk all night. As well it's just around the corner from the metro so it's an easy and safe walk to the hotel. It's a little out of the way in Paris terms, but if you are travelling on a budget and have time to either bus/velib or metro into the centre, then this is a. Hotel...
