Villa Viva Hamburg — Hotel in Hamburg

I really wanted to love this hotel, mostly because of the rooftop bar if I’m being honest. It’s a fantastic spot to look across Hamburg and watch the world go by, with friendly staff and reasonably priced beer, and a sauna to boot. It’s also a very stylish hotel with a stripped back aesthetic. Some of the reviews on here have complained about the concrete walls and the lack of tv in the room, but this really didn’t bother me. If you’re here on a city break how much time are you likely to spend watching tv in your room in any case? The breakfast is also great, although arguably a bit pricey at 20 euros a head. But if you’re pushing the boat out and raiding the buffet alongside multiple coffees and orange juices it’s a fair price for a good quality spread. But whilst this place oozes style it failed for me at times on some of the fundamentals. The bed was hard, and I mean really hard. On my third sleepless night I began to wonder whether the bare concrete floor would be more comfortable. They also give you single duvets, which I know is relatively common in Europe, but it reminds me of sleeping in a child’s bed with a postage-stamp sized cover that constantly slipped off in the night. Are double-sized duvets really that much more expensive? Check-in was also a pain. I’ve had this happen to me before at similar hotels in Germany with a hipster vibe. The front desk staff hand you an iPad and three of them sit there chatting to each other with a keyboard and computer in front of them, watching you struggling to punch in your details on a fiddly touchscreen. I think the assumption is that you’ll be so impressed by the iPad that you won’t mind doing their job for them. But when you’re tired after 7 hours of traveling it’s just annoying. How hard is it for front desk staff to enter the details for you so you’re not faced with an annoying admin task as soon as you arrive? It’s hospitality 101 really. Finally, on the first morning I decided against the breakfast, but asked if I could grab a coffee. “Not for free” I was abruptly told. I’m sorry, but I paid nearly 1,000 euros for 6 nights at your hotel and you’re too cheap to provide coffee in the morning? I’ve stayed at hostels for 30euros a night before that give you coffee in the morning. It’s a small thing maybe but again it’s a lack of basic hospitality that is completely standard in most hotels. A real pity because the vibe in general is nice at this hotel, the bar spectacular, and the location convenient if you’re coming from the central station. But in working up the vibe it seems they forgot about some...

Was soll man darüber schreiben. Ehrlich gesagt finde ich das Newcomer Hotel nicht besonders gut.

Es ist viel mehr.

Es ist für mich herausragend. So ein Hotel und Konzept habe ich noch nie gesehen. Die Nachhaltigkeit steht hier an Erster Stelle. Das ganze Konzept stellt die klassische Übernachtungen, wie wir sie so kennen, auf den Kopf. Leute, schmeißt alles aus euren Kopf, was ihr von einem Hotel so kennt oder erwartet.

Ich verspreche euch, der Schalter wird aus euren Kopf fliegen.

Los gehts:

Wenn man in ins VVH reinkommt.

Empfangsbereich: Trifft man linker Hand auf einen Wasserspender. Das Wasser ist kostenlos. Man kann zwischen gekühlt und zimmerthemeriert auswählen. Ein Kicker lädt zu einer Runde ein auch dieser ist kostenlos. Wir haben den Kicker reichlich genutzt. Gerade aus, ist eine Wand, welche mit Seifen, Cremes, Brotaufstriche usw bestückt ist. Ein Kühlschrank mit Non-Alkohol und verschiednenen Bieren ist dort auch zu finden. Diese Sachen muss man natürlich bezahlen. Die aufgerufene Preise sind ok.

Rezeption: Das Einchecken erfolgte absolut vorbildlich. Es gibt für alle mitreisenden einen Zimmerkarte. Mit dieser Karte kommt man mit dem Lift in das jeweilige Geschoss und in das Zimmer. Tolle Idee.

Die Wände sind modern künstlerisch bemalt. Top. Dies zieht sich durch alle Etagen durch.

Zimmer: Nach dem Einchecken ging es natürlich ins Zimmer. Nach dem Öffnen der Zimmertüre, waren wir sprachlos. Was zu Hölle ist das für ein Zimmer und das Interieur? Bierkästen als Füße und oben auf ein Brett. Der Boden aus Sichtbeton. Auf dem Boden sind Zeichnungen aufgemalt und mit Klarlack versiegelt. Wow... Badezimmer und Toilette ist in einem Top gepflegten Zustand. Fernseher? Nein, gibt es hier nicht. Detox vom Fernseher. Geil. WLan ist kostenlos im Zimmer und auch gesamten Hotel. Im Bad ist hauseigene Seifen und Bodylotion vorhanden. Riecht toll. Beides kann man im Hotel erwerben. Handtücher sind Schlagschatten weich. Betten und Kissen sind brutal guschelig.

Leider schafften wir es nur einmal dort zu essen. Hat sich aber gelohnt. Preis/ Leistung gerechtfertigt. Teller leer, Magen voll☺️.

ROOF TOP: Auf dem Roof top waren wir auch. Unfassbare Ausblick. Leider hatte uns die Getränkekarte nicht zugesagt. Macht aber nichts. Es war sehr gut besucht. Also muss es ja gut sein

Besonderes Highlight war die " Showeinlage" mit dem Feueralarm. Real! Feueralarm. Nachts gegen 00.26 Uhr hat uns der digitale Weckservice vom VVH geweckt. Ohrenbefäubender Lärm im ganzen Haus. Nichts wie raus. Natürlich über die Treppe. Unten angekommen, haben die Mitarbeiter vom VVH die Gäste zu einem Sammelplatz geführt. Nachdem die Feuerwehr ankam und die Lage sondierte, wurde durch die Feuerwehr festgestellt, dass eine Wunderkerze den Alarm ausgelöst hatte. Es gibt Gäste die sind einfach nur blöd. Randbemerkung: auf allen Feuermeldern steht sinngemäß "500 Euro Strafe bei vorsätzliche Alarmauslösung". Nach Ende des Feueralarms und der Freigabe durch den Brandmeister konnten alle gegen 00.56 Uhr wieder ins Hotel zurück gehen. Und da kam der Oberknaller. Nicht nur das das Personal vom VVH während der ganzen Zeit ruhig geblieben ist, nicht nur das sie vor dem Gebäude die Gäste zum Sammelplatz führten. Nein, es wurde vom VVH auch noch kostenlos Wasser für alle ausgegeben.

Surprisingly interesting place to stay. The interiors, especially on the floors with rooms, have been finished in a very tastefully minimalist design. Hallways have a solid foam covering which is very quiet to walk on and are lit by funky round lights of different colours. The minimalist approach continues in the rooms - concrete floors that are sealed with a clear coat, beds constructed from plywood and in our corner room the bed space extends as a platform to the corner. The toilet and shower are in separate spaces, neither feel cramped. The windows are thickly glazed so the room is quiet and stays at a comfortable temperature.

Breakfast is well done with a good selection of cold and warm food. Not expensive either ¢18 when we were there. The only relative disappointment was that the restaurant wasn't open for lunch. The reception and breakfast staff were always friendly and helpful

The hotel is close to central Hamburg and an easy walk from central station. In summary, a great affordable place to...
