I wanted to go to a rooftop in Athens for a birthday dinner. My wife did the research as she didn’t simply want to pay for a view but rather to have an excellent meal as well. As the search was last minute we could not get an evening reservation. This was disappointing but understandable as we had waited until the last minute. We decided to try a walk in just in case they had a table available. At the hotel entrance we were advised that we would likely need a reservation but were encouraged to head up to the tenth floor rooftop to give it a try. We were met by the hostess who confirmed we didn’t have a reservation but suggested we stay for a drink. She wouldn’t let us move on though until she triple searched and was able to find a us a table for two for dinner. We did not tell her we were there to celebrate but she was determined nonetheless to seat us. We were very grateful and thought we would get a table tucked somewhere in the back. Instead we were given an exceptional table that provided acropolis, sunset and ocean views. The staff were prompt and attentive through our pre dinner drinks, meal, dessert and coffee. We were given a sampler plate of breads with a herbed butter and sea salt. All fresh and delicious. We shared a scrumptious Greek salad, the seafood ravioli and the lamb. All three were excellent. The lamb was DIVINE. Best I have eaten, ever, not just in Greece. The triple chocolate dessert did not disappoint either. It had great flavour and was the perfect combination of crunch and creaminess. I am a self proclaimed foodie and have high expectations especially from a restaurant that is at a higher price point then many others in the area. If you are out for a treat and willing to break the budget for a special meal and location we would highly recommend this spot. We did take a photo of the view but none of our meals as pulling out a camera was the last thing on our minds when these beautifully plated...
Read moreThe food was amazing and the service was horrible. It was the last day of our honeymoon, we had been travelling all day via bus, metro, ferry and had a beautiful dinner date planned and had made a reservation over a month in advance. We arrived to Athens late and did not have time to change, my wife and I were both in shorts and a t shirt and greeted by the doorman of the hotel who immediately judged us by what I can only assume our appearance, he told us the restaurant was closed despite it being 9:45 and us having a reservation for 10:00 pm. He called for a manager as he did not even want to let us in the building. After confirming we had infact made a reservation they let us up to the rooftop garden. We had a beautiful view and the food was amazing, however our server came to our table twice, once to let us order and again to drop off our food. We had made him aware we planned on having a dessert and he said he would bring a menu back after we finished eating. Not only did he avoid eye contact with our table, he did not come to ask how our meal was, if we wanted to have dessert or if we were ready to pay. We sat for 30 minutes after eating, decided against dessert as we felt invisible to all the staff. After staring down the manager and advising him we were ready to pay he brought our bill. Our server still refused to make eye contact or acknowledge us. It was a horrible way to end what could have been the fireworks on the last day of our honeymoon, what we thought would be an unforgettable night to end things in Athens before departing home, became something we would much rather forget ever happened. Our hats go off to the kitchen staff, and that is it. We would...
Read moreDo NOT go if you’re not a guest at their hotel. HORRIBLE experience of discrimination. We had a 9 pm reservation which were made over two weeks before arriving in Athens. We wanted to see another view of the Acropolis for our last night in Athens on 6/15/24. From the moment we were greeted and asked by the hostess if we were a guest of their hotel….We told her we were staying at another hotel. She seated us in the back section of the restaurant by the glass doors with one other group of guests (similar nationality as us) finishing their meals while there were two to three other tables available in the open area in front of the glass doors. We had a late lunch and the best ice cream at Mona Lisa after our evening tour so we were not too hungry when we arrived. It took the waiter a long time to come to our table to get our order and the food seemed to take forever to be served as if we were an afterthought, forgotten and hidden by the glass doors. We had orzo with beef and lamb dishes then chocolate mousse for dessert. The food was delirious. We had to seek out another waitress while she was cleaning up around us to get our check. She nodded but then ignored our request. While we waited we observed two other tables being seated after 10 pm in the front section with offering of hand towels. We didn’t get our check a half hour later. Inexcusable. This was the worst experience we had in Greece with blatant discrimination. We could have chosen many other rooftop restaurants and wouldn’t have been treated this way. We highly recommend GB Roof Garden at Hotel Bretagne down the street where they would not treat their guests like at Metropolis...
