First, I must mention that this is the second place we booked for the same trip. We were going to our first Airbnb and were really struck by how run down and shady the area was. It was close to Monastiraki and Onomia (do not stay here!). It was so shady we decided to just ditch the first reservation and book another place. And so we found the Home and Poetry Hotel. This hotel and staff were stellar. They were accommodating at every turn and went out of their way to make sure we were comfortable. Here's a breakdown of my experience here: -Breakfast is a fresh variety of sandwiches, pastries, cereal, and includes a freshly squeezed pitcher of orange juice for guests. I still think about that juice. We actually wouldn't leave for the day without our O.J.! -Interior of the Hotel is classy and upscale. There are paintings and white marble floors and wood trim everywhere. Really nice touch -The concierge/manager/staff were always readily available to answer questions about safety, renting cars, restaurants, tourist attractions, etc. -Cleaning was always done promptly and our beds and bathrooms were left spotless. (still make sure to leave your high value items in the safe) -Location leads either into a busier street near the Temple of Zeus or into more quaint side streets that lead up to the Acroplis. There are shops, restaurants, and sights within 5-10 mins of walking into any direction. We walked everywhere and it wasn't overwhelming at all. Plaka Stairs is also a nice place to visit and eat.
Bottom line is, you won't be disappointed here. Prices are competitive as well. It's the perfect balance between the cleanliness of a hotel mixed with the local Athenian treatment. If I ever find myself back in Athens, no question where...
Read moreWe had an incredible stay at this hotel about a month ago and I cannot recommend it enough! From the moment we arrived, we were greeted by the most friendly and welcoming staff member. The people here truly go above and beyond for their guests. During our stay there, my mother placed 820 dollars and her wallet (which included 2 credit cards, her American ID, and passport card) in the safe and did not lock it. When we checked out of the hotel, we forgot to retrieve these from the safe and did not realize we were missing them until we were aboard a cruise ship sailing off from Athens. Originally, we thought we had only left the money behind. When we contacted the staff to ask if they had found money in the safe, they checked and emailed us back telling us that they found $820, not $800, and they also sent a picture of my mom’s walled, which we did not even know was missing. After this, the staff went above and beyond trying to get the money and the wallet back to us. I know they had to do extra work to get these back to us and not once did they complain. On the contrary, they were extremely helpful and willing to help. We are truly grateful for their honesty and their cooperation. On top of the amazing and honest staff, this hotel is located in a perfect spot near all the top sites to see in Athens and near many shops and restaurants. The cost of the room also includes a delicious breakfast buffet, which was served at the terrace with a nice view. The room was spacious, clean, and with comfortable beds.
All in all, our stay at this hotel was exceptional and I can confidently say that we will be going back on...
Read more2.5 out of 5, I’d say.
Pros: -The staff are stellar. Helpful, kind, responsive: everything you could hope for. They carry this place and are the biggest asset the hotel has. -Location - quite good. Quiet but close to everything -Thick walls in the hotel, resulting in a more peaceful stay -Comfortable enough bed and pillows -Shower has good water pressure
Cons: -It felt like a terrible value for the room. We paid over $350+ and didn’t realize our room was in the basement of the hotel, which meant we needed the curtains closed all the time or we would constantly see strangers right outside. It was the worst hotel room by far we had on the whole trip for the price point. For over $350 a night, I expect at least to be able to have sunlight. -there was a giant ominous stain on the armchair -fluctuating hot/cold temp on shower -blanket on the bed was very thin -mistake with bags - we were told they would bring our bags into our room. We came back 3 hours later with our suitcases just sitting unsupervised in the main hotel hallway (no one around) with tons of guest foot traffic. Easily could have had someone steal out of them, we were lucky nothing happened.
Overall, the staff here clearly make this place - otherwise the stay was insultingly expensive for what we got. It was definitely the worst room on our trip, and one of the...
