Hotel Phaedra is a basic hotel with an incredible location. It is located hotel in the heart of the popular Plaka area. |LOCATION: It could not have been more central. We walked everywhere. It is a 4 - 5 minute walk to the Acropolis and Acropolis Museum. The beautiful 10th century Church of St Catherine is across the road, Hadrian’s Arch and the Temple of Olympian Zeus are just around the corner. It is located at one end of Adrianou Street, a lively, fun street full of restaurants and souvenir shops. Brettos Bar (which I highly recommend) is just 2 - 3 minutes away.|ROOM: The best feature of our room was the small balcony that looked across to the Parthenon and Acropolis. The room itself was of average size and was simply furnished with tiled floors. It lacked charm but was clean and comfortable and did the job. It was perfectly adequate and was very good value for the price. We had a strange arrangement of having a separate but private bathroom with a key. This was OK but it was across the corridor and the key was a little sticky so not ideal. There was an additional basin in the room which was handy for cleaning teeth and getting a glass of water in the night. No problems at all with wifi. There is an elevator which is helpful if you have large suitcases.|SERVICE: Email communication before we arrived was good. They replied quickly and they gave us good instructions for arrival. They allowed us to drop our bags early than the check-in time so that we could go and explore and come back when our room was ready. The desk is manned 24/7 but during our stay, service was patchy and was very dependent on who was manning the desk. |FACILITIES: This is a good but basic hotel so if you want a range of hotel facilities, then this is not for you. The best part was the rooftop balcony which had a beautiful view across to the Acropolis and Parthenon. We took drinks up there a couple of evenings and we were the only ones there. Breakfast was offered but there were very short breakfast hours of 7 - 8am which did not suit us and we got breakfast elsewhere. There is a very small kiosk around the corner called Salt N Sugar where we usually grabbed a coffee and...
Read moreThe hotel is an excellent location, right in the middle of Plaka and near Acropolis. The rooms are very basic and outdated. This is a cheap hotel so bear that in mind when booking. There was a hair dryer in the room to my surprise. The fridge was inside an old wardrobe and TV was on top of it. We found it very funny. The bathroom was outside our room, just across the corridor and was private (we had a key). It was reasonable clean but the shower head was very low but can be removed. The water wasn't flowing fast enough and it get flooded very fast inside the shower. There was a small balcony and we had great views of acropolis from our room. The beds were ok and the air conditioning was working and cooling enough. The breakfast cost 7 euros and is very basic. I recommend to eat in one of the many places around. There are so many good places to eat in Plaka. We loved Daphne restaurant and cafe just around the corner from the hotel. Very nice traditional Greek food for a reasonable price and good service. Acropolis is just 5 min walking. There is a rooftop space in the hotel accessible from the 3rd floor with great views of Acropolis and Athens and some tables to sit and eat. The staff was polite and helpful. As we were most the day sightseeing Athens and just come to the hotel to sleep, it was ok for us. We saved some money in Athens and spent 4 times in a good hotel in Santorini. I would recommend if you are in a budget or want to save some money to splash in another part of the trip but don't expect nothing...

My husband and I stayed here for a couple of nights during a trip to celebrate our 7th wedding anniversary. Athens was the first leg of a 3-destination trip, and it was the location we had the least amount of time in, so we wanted to hit the ground running! This hotel worked out absolutely perfectly for this.
The room itself is nice, nothing special. Small, but practical and clean. It had a nice-sized private balcony with a small table and two chairs, and we had a direct view of the Acropolis. After a full day of exploring it was nice to unwind on the balcony with some wine, look at some stars, and listen to the sounds of nightlife.
The main draw that led me to book this hotel was location, location, location! You could not ask for a better area to stay! Walking distance to everything you want and need. Close enough to some nice nightlife, but just far enough away to be able to retire to your room and not be bothered by unwanted outside noise. We ended up buying a 48hr pass for one of the 'hop-on hop-off' busses that stop around the major attractions of Athens, and the hotel was less than a 5min straight walk to one of the stops, so it made getting around the city extremely convenient.
Fancy? No. Extremely practical? Yes. Overall, it was just...
