When you think of gelato in Plaka, the vibrant heart of Athens, it’s hard not to feel excitement. The charming streets lined with historic architecture create an inviting backdrop for indulging in one of the finest treats Greece has to offer. This particular gelato shop stands out not just for its numerous flavors, but for the passion and craftsmanship that goes into every scoop.
Madagascar Vanilla, my number one choice, is nothing short of perfection. Unlike regular vanilla, this flavor is rich and fragrant, derived from the finest vanilla beans that bring a depth of flavor that’s both comforting and indulgent. Each scoop is creamy, with a velvety texture that melts in your mouth, leaving behind a subtle hint of sweetness that makes you crave more. The beauty of this gelato is also remarkable; it’s often artfully presented, sometimes topped with delicate swirls of cream or colorful sprinkles, turning each serving into a feast for the eyes as well.
The atmosphere of the shop adds to the whole experience. As you step in, the air is filled with a sweet, inviting aroma that beckons you to explore all the different options. The friendly staff is eager to help, often offering tastes of various flavors so you can find your perfect match. The vibrant colors of the gelato—ranging from deep chocolate to bright fruit sorbets—create a visual delight that often captures the attention of passersby.
What makes your experience even more special is the setting. Enjoying a cone of Madagascar Vanilla while sitting in one of Plaka’s quaint squares, surrounded by friends or family, enhances the joy of the moment. The sounds of laughter, the clinking of glasses from nearby tavernas, and the buzz of conversation fill the air, creating a lively atmosphere that makes each bite of gelato taste...
Read moreThe ice cream/gelato were delicious but the store worker especially the lady working was RUDE! Really turned off my impression of the Greek People. There were many exotic flavors presented by this place and I wanted to taste some. My daughter and I were trying some of the flavors, sharing the same TEENY TINY SPOONS for tasting. I requested my 3rd taste test and the woman in the cash register talks to the guy helping me in Greek and the guy suddenly looks at me and said “ no more tasting” . I said what???? Who does that and to customers who are tourists who pays and willing to help your economy at this time?DF!!!! What type of customer service do you have da Vinci? You could really do better! What a disappointment for us first time visitors from the US.! You should be ashamed of yourselves! My first instinct was to just turn my back and NOT buy anything but since my daughter already chose hers I had to pay. I even bought a serving for myself. The issue is not the ice cream, it’s the workers who clearly need help in...
Read moreHad the gelato here after reading the Google reviews and I was not disappointed! I ordered the mango, greek yoghurt with honey, fruit and nuts, and the pistachio. The mango was just amazing! So much mango flavour. The pistachio flavour was spot on except it was a little too sweet for me usually but it was so good I still ate it all. By far my favourite was the greek yoghurt though, slightly tangy but sweet. This one is definitely worth trying. They did have these doughnut shaped lollies too but I didn't try it. Excuse my photo, I ate most of it before remembering to take it...
Update: I returned again and tried the 'doughnut' ice cream lollies (sorry no photo!) which is vanilla ice cream coated in different flavoured chocolate. I had the lemon tart and my mum had the white chocolate one. Both were tasty! I recommend you try both the gelato and the...
