We wanted to leave an honest review. ||First the good points: the staff were friendly, the hotel was central and clean and the wifi and aircon was good. Our room was fairly large, the storage was good and had a proper size fridge and there was also a kettle - tip there, bring your teabags!||Now the not so good... we really don't think this is a 3 star hotel compared to many three stars we have stayed in. The third bed was very small with a head board either end, really this wouldn't suit anyone over 5ft and this needs to be made clear when booking. The mattress was very thin. Our tall child barely slept when we stayed there.||The shower is annoying, as there is no curtain and the floor gets soaked after each shower and makes the floor extremely slippy unless you put a towel down.||Our balcony overlooking the street was narrow, you can get two people out there, but no more.||The pool we think is owned by another hotel. The area around the pool wasn't cleaned as we could see a coat hanger and water bottle under sun loungers that didn't get removed. The furniture is a mismatch and some of it old. It just looks unloved. The pool itself was clean but the surrounding pool area just let it down in our opinion.||The breakfast choice is limited and didn't compare to other 3 star hotels we have stayed in. It was very samey and we ate the same every day. The area you get the breakfast is narrow and someone stands watching you as you serve yourself - in the narrowest spot! The area you eat is very crammed. It was just really disappointing. ||From a security perspective, you could walk into the hotel directly from an entrance off a side street. No security, which we don't thinks is very good.||Gouvia itself had plenty of restaurants, so lots of choice, special shout out to The Best and BBQ Art, everyone we met raved about them, great food at both, very reasonably priced too. There is a rock bar in Gouvia which has a decent pool table and was 4 euros for 30 mins and our child loved this. We would say that Gouvia wouldn't be easy to get around if you have mobility issues and the pavements weren't great.||Gouvia beach front, well it was very tired. Two bars down there overlooked a car park before you saw the sea. Lots of litter. We went to Dassia on the bus and liked to go to the beach there instead of Gouvia. There are better beaches and sea fronts than Gouvia.||Bus trips - Corfu Town is a must. Great pizza place there. We went to Margherita Pizza - it's excellent Tripadvisor reviews were rightly justified. Book a table. ||We also went to Ipsos on the bus and this was good as well and we also went to Kassiopi on a boat trip and this is well worth a visit.||My partner and child went to Aqualand. It was hard to get to on public transport. But a good size water park, clean, good rides for all the family, lots of space and food was good and recommend it.||So, to summarise, from our experience what we thought we were getting didn't live up to our expectations. Staff were friendly, hotel was clean, but it lacked in other areas when compared against other 3 star Jet2 accommodation we...
Read moreGouvia just a short 7min stroll to the pebble beach with sun beds for hire, at reasonable prices. Unfortunately, lots of littler around the beach & along the village roads. - Friendly vibe in village where you felt safe walking around. Good quality Bars / Restaurant around village. We loved: Virginia & 9 Muses & BBQ Art for the kebabs & giros all at reasonable prices. Small cheap delicious Pizza place on corner which always has plenty of foot fall because of the quality. ||||- Staff in Palotel were helpful friendly & polite. Vicky & Spyros and her team made us feel welcome from the second we arrived with some cool drinks.- Hotel looks newly built over the last 15-10yrs. Its kept exceptionally clean. A quiet hotel on the main little street with minimal traffic - lift to all x3 floors. Free wifi & air con. - Rooms on smallish size even though our was supposed to be a Triple bedded room (3 bed is a small sofa bed - not good for an adult to sleep on). Balcony with sofa chairs to relax on. New memory foam mattresses comfortable, though a little hard. Pillows too high & very hard. Bathroom newly tiled clean & fresh, though floor can get very slippy even if a bit wet with the polished tiles. - Watch you keep the shower curtain inside the shower or it floods bathroom very quickly easily. Daily maid service (except Sunday) Beds changed every x3 days, (4 if weekend) when your towels are changed too. Pool towel to hire 5 euro each.||||- Breakfast adequate. No special omelettes to order though from the kitchen, even though there was a girl in there. No evening food is now available in this hotel. ||||- Overall a pleasant stay in fair/good hotel, but there is a problem with the shared pool with the next door hotel. - Whole of the pool area is extremely grimy. - It really could do with a good jet wash as was muddy /scummy / slippy in places underfoot around the pool. Sun beds also dirty in need of clean / repair. Tables ramshackle & old. Litter / bottles / food wrappings left from previous days around pool area. Beware of the broken plastic railings underfoot around pool. Very dangerous! We found the pool water to be cloudy on a few occasions. This was reported & found the ‘filters’ had been turned off x2 days before! So no testing of the water by anyone was apparent. No one was really bothered with our concerns. Shame, we only used pool once. - We paid €5 each a day to use pool up the road at beautiful Jet2 hotel Zefiros Apartment / hotel. (about 15 min walk.) Turn right out of hotel, just about 500 yards past marina entrance on the main road. They will welcome you if you buy food / drinks from them during your stay. ||||- Shame really as the staff are really nice & welcoming - but we will not return to this hotel. If I did return I would use the sister hotel further on other side of the duel carriageway, which I believe is far superior with...
Read moreOn arrival the receptionist was very welcoming and explained everything we needed.||We had Room 213 on the second floor which overlooked the pool. The room was quiet, a good size, clean with blackout curtains. Plenty of hanging space with plenty of wooden hangers and two big drawers underneath the wardrobe. Air conditioning is good and quiet. As normal, it does stop when the patio doors are open and when you take the key out of the socket. There is also a large fridge that had a complimentary bottle of water on arrival. The bed is firm but comfy with good quality. ||Bathroom was a good size and clean with a large storage cupboard under the sink. There is a hairdryer in the bathroom but it's not very powerful. The shower was always hot and powerful although the shower curtain is a bit short so you have to be careful otherwise the shower water comes out into the bathroom. The curtain also sticks to you at times. You cannot drink the tap water and I also recommend that you use tap water for brushing teeth as the tap water is very salty.||Our balcony was a good size with plenty of room for two chairs and a table. Other balconies had a small sofa, chair and table. As other reviews stated, you can see into other balconies and they can see into yours but you can't see the people next door so does it matter. ||The shared pool is literally up 4 steps but is not owned by Palotel. The majority of sun loungers could do with replacing but not sure if this hotel can do much about it. Bins emptied but the area around the pool could do with a good power wash.||Breakfast was good and consisted of fresh fruit, yogurt, cooked (not always hot), pastries, bread. We felt there was plenty of choise so not sure what other reviews mean. Staff do stand nearby ready to help but I never felt uncomfortable.||Outside the hotel, Gouvia itself does look tired with rubbish around and quite a few buildings shut up. Again this isn't the hotel's fault. Outside this hotel is was spotless.||We hired a scooter from Takis and Kelly bike hire which was just up from the hotel. Very good. They made sure we were comfortable with the scooter and that they were happy we were safe before we were let go.||Good places to eat were Moukas and Red chilli (curry house). We also had a few meals at Sayam (Thai/Chinese) which were all good but you are best booking as they get full quickly. ||All in all we enjoyed our stay at this hotel but can't say it's a Luxury 3* more...
