Good food but questionable service! Would only recommend if you don't mind not getting what you ordered!
We've been to Vergina twice now. The first time was nice; service was slow but we had drinks and could relax and the food was very good.
Tonight we went for a second time. We had to wait a while to have our order taken. That's OK, they were busy, no problem. The first time we went i had fancied the cod and skordalia but ended up having the grilled sea bass (very nice). Someone had later recommended the cod and skordalia so I was really wanting to try it! Especially the skordalia because i love garlic. But when I ordered, the waiter said the cod wasn't that good and I should have the red snapper instead. He said the cod was a few days old and had a lot more bones. I was a bit confused by this but asked if I could still have the cod. He said OK.
It took around an hour for our starter to arrive. Again, we didn't mind waiting and relaxing, it's a nice place. As soon as our starter was cleared, my husband's main arrived. I was waiting around 15 minutes for my cod, when a waitress came and told me that it hadn't been put on the order, but it would be another couple of minutes. No problem, again I don't mind waiting.
Another 20 minutes later and finally my food arrived, another waitress literally dropped it and left. But instead of skordalia, there was chips?? It took a while but after 3 attempts eventually I managed to attract the attention of the first waitress. I said I was expecting the skordalia. She said that she didn't think I would like it? I said it was what I ordered so I did want it... so she brought a plate of it and said it that it was on the house, as were the chips. Well I tried a couple of chips because they were on my plate but I didn't want them. The food was nice (no bones in the cod either...).
Finally we asked for the bill. The original waiter asked if everything was OK, I said I was disappointed I didn't originally get what I asked for. His response? "I told you that you should have ordered the red snapper".
We paid full price for everything (including the cod with skordalia) and didn't even get an apology. The second waitress took my payment. She asked if everything was OK but walked away when I was answering her.
All in all, €60 for some decent food but a lot of stress. Disappointed because I thought we would be coming back again. I'm sure they won't miss our custom as the restaurant seemed very busy. But we will stick to family run establishments that treat all of their customers with respect. Such a shame because the food is really nice. But it left me...
Read moreBeen coming here for 20 years the people who own the building are fantastic the people who rent the building now due to the owners retiring very bad service the daughter was very very rude. They forgot some of our food and she said have you ever worked in a kitchen? We make mistakes no apology and then she calls us Malacca which is a very bad Greek word and she said it to her mother when we was paying the bill not nice people at all very very rude girl she thought that we did not understand Greek would not recommend this place to anyone. They do not deserve the business. I would also like to point out that the owners comments of false we never received all our food. His daughter was very rude calling my wife a bad name people can judge for their selves. It would’ve been a lot easier for people just to apologise instead of being rude and abusive towards me and my family And just for the record the daughter of the owner called my wife a very rude name which I was upset about. Well we went past the restaurant tonight the 27th of July the girl started abusing us because of our review very rude and here is a picture of her. I think her parents would be ashamed of how she is being front of the house it would be very interesting to see the so-called video of me abusing you because I didn’t. You was the one who started to insult my wife to which other people witnessed this and you are fully aware that I eat at your restaurant previously because you answered it you are a very silly young immature girl people only need to look at...
Read moreGreat restaurant, not a tourist trap. Staying at an all inclusive, meant that we had not ventured out much for food, but having ventured into Gouvia one night, and fancying some fish we decided to have a look at the restaurants. When we were looking at the menu, a lovely lady came and asked what we were looking for, and then explained all the fish dishes on the menu for us (I believe she may have been the owners daughter), she wasn't pushy at all, and therefore we agreed to try the restaurant.
We were seated right away and the waiter bought us over a bottle of water (they did ask first), and then came back to take out order. We ordered the seafood platter which I believe was around €42, and as this was about €30 cheaper than some of the other restaurants, we weren't sure what we would be getting. That said, it was more than enough for two people to share, and had fried muscles, prawns, calamari and sardines, along with steamed muscles, giant prawns, and two pieces of grilled octopus. It also came with dips and pitta. All was very nice, however there were a lot of sardines, and therefore we didn't finish them all. I took some of them with me when I left, and gave them to the stray cats around Gouvia.
Drinks were well priced, with a VERY cold pint of beer costing about €5 and the water costing about €2. Card payment accepted.
All in all, a very nice meal, with...
