We got off to a bit of a shaky start but everything went uphill (literally and figuratively) from then on! Chania Old Town is full of little narrow alleyways which of course create a fantastic atmosphere at night. However, even with a map and sat nav, it's tricky finding your way around. We drove from the airport but we couldn't locate the apartments because the Old Town is rightly pedestrianised and parking is extremely difficult. So it was a long trek with suitcases but we found it eventually. The next day we discovered in the daylight a far easier and closer place for parking (Ag. Theofanous). We arrived later than expected by which time the owner had just left a note on the door asking us to call. Naturally we couldn't get a phone signal but the shopkeeper nearby had obviously encountered lost souls like us before, and simply opened the letter box on the wall and handed us a set of keys! Coming from Glasgow, I would never have thought of doing that!||||We had Room 2 of 5 in total on a two storey building plus charming roof terrace with views of the lighthouse and harbour. ||||There is only one room with a balcony (No 5) which we missed but it didn't spoil our enjoyment. The room is very traditional with a modern kitchenette and ensuite WC and shower. The WC takes a bit of getting used to - sitting sideways!||Even so, the room was fine - with Satellite telly, kettle, toaster, induction hob (which we couldn't quite figure out how to work!) and of course air conditioning, all included in the price. ||On our first day, we hauled our breakfast things up onto the terrace but were too lazy for the rest of our stay! ||Anyway, we loved it. It was great to stay somewhere with some tradition to it, and not anything like the modern boxes you get nowadays. The building itself is interesting and the furnishings very homely and welcoming. We look forward to trying out Room 5 as...
Read moreWe checked in, paid, went to the room (it was very small, much smaller then the pictures reveal) and saw that the window above he bed (the only window in the room) had a broken mosquito net.||we went down tot he reception to ask if they could fix the problem, and the owner of the establishment said to me that they can not fix it at this hour and that he doesn't have any solution for my problem. I asked him what does he except us to do if we want to have the window open in a small and stuffy room. he said "if you don't like it then you can leave".||as he said that i went upstairs took my things and left.||The owner of the establishment basically told me to 'F' off, while he sat with his back towards me smoking a cigarette, not once getting up to talk to me, not once trying to comfort me or think of a solution, not once offering any regret or compassion to the problem and the whole time acting aloof, rude and not like an owner of a hospitality establishment.||||I would recommend looking elsewhere, the place itself is fine, get what you pay for, nothing special, but the vibe of the owner is felt right away, cold,...

This is not five star luxury, but it is very comfortable, very clean and very friendly and helpful hosts. There were free items in the room on arrival which provided a nice personal touch. We received good advice on places to eat and how to make the best use of our limited time in Chania.||Because it is in the old town, it is in an old building with steep, narrow staircases but they really are not a problem, especially when on arrival our host carried my wife's case up to our room. No breakfast is provided, but there are enough utensils in the room to enable you to prepare your own if you wish. We made use of the recommended breakfast venue only 100 metres away. A great place to stay, right in the old town of Chania - and that's where...
