Disappointing Stay – Not Worth the Money
We stayed as a family (two adults and a small child, 2 years old) at Le Palace Hotel in Thessaloniki, and unfortunately, our experience was far from satisfactory.
The hotel’s location is undeniably perfect, right in the city center, which makes it easy to explore Thessaloniki on foot and return to the hotel at any time. However, this also comes with a significant downside: extreme noise in the rooms, even with the windows closed, as there is absolutely no soundproofing. It genuinely feels like you are sleeping on the street.
The hotel itself is very old and poorly maintained. Although parts of it have been “renovated,” everything feels extremely cheap and worn out. There has clearly been no real investment in maintaining or improving the property for many years, and everything gives off a neglected vibe.
One of the main reasons I chose this hotel was the promise of Cocomat mattresses for a good night’s sleep, especially for those with back problems. However, the beds were extremely uncomfortable, and I doubt they were actually Cocomat mattresses—or if they were, they were far too old to offer any comfort.
The biggest disappointment was the check-in experience. I booked two double rooms one month in advance, specifying that both should have double beds (not twins) and a baby cot in one room for our child. I even called the hotel after booking to confirm these requests and was assured everything would be arranged. However, upon arrival, we were shocked to find both rooms had twin beds and there was no baby cot. When I asked at reception to change the rooms, I was told the hotel was fully booked and nothing could be done. The same answer was given again in the morning. No help, no apology, just a simple “nothing we can do.”
This level of unprofessionalism and lack of hospitality is truly disappointing—especially in Greece, where genuine warmth and hospitality are the norm. It’s clear the staff are just following management’s instructions, and the hotel’s owner has no interest in guest satisfaction or investing in the property.
The breakfast was basic and exactly what you’d expect for the price, but everything else felt like a waste of money. There are so many hotels in Thessaloniki, and I would strongly advise looking elsewhere. Even for the low price, the overall experience is simply not worth it—unless you absolutely don’t care about comfort, sleep, or good service.
Despite this, we enjoyed our time in Thessaloniki, but Le Palace will definitely not be on our list for...
Read moreWe stayed here for a week with our little dog. The hotel is very central, on the corner of two of the most lively and commercial streets of Thessaloniki. The reception area is small, but there is a beautiful salon in the first floor, with antique furniture and comfortable sofas for the clients use. Sofas are placed also in the common space of each floor. Our room was in the first floor, in the back of the hotel, hence no view, but also no noise either. It was spacious, with huge bed, extra mattress and pillows and with the addition of a big comfortable sofa and a coffee table. The bathroom was equally big with a large bathtub. The only complain of our stay is, that the bathtub was slippery, as it lacked a grip to hold on to and/or those special bathtub stripes that allow secure footing. I cannot praise enough the breakfast. The hotel is three stars, but, as far as the breakfast goes, you could mistake it for a five star one. Huge variety of choices, plus an extra item, different on each day and prepared on the spot. The daily extras were pancakes or crepes, loukoumades, omelette, all delicious and fresh. The staff in the breakfast room could held its head high, even in the most expensive and posh of the places. They make you feel welcome, treat you like royalty and smile the authentic smiles of the people who really love their job! Bravo to the girls, hope your employer appreciates you. Thank you for all the Cappuccino Freddo's you prepared...
Read moreThe hotel is centrally located, on Tsimiski street, the main commercial street on the city. You can walk practically anywhere in the center in at most 10 minutes. The street is rather busy though, and there is some traffic noise, even at the higher floors. The rooms are medium to large for the center, but they are very tired and need work. In the bathroom, which usually is the first to show the age of the room, the bathtub was chipped and the toilet paper holder broken - in the room, the cover in front of the fridge was missing (it was supposed to be enclosed in a closet), and the electric plugs quite loaded. On the other hand, the executive room was spacious, the beds very comfortable and the room was cleaned properly.||||The breakfast room, which was apparently renovated, looked like the entire hotel should. The breakfast was excellent, with various local options, and the people working the room were friendly and helpful. The entrance was tiny and there was no space to store luggage, if you left late, you just left it in front of the reception (or, as close as you could). WiFi worked fine in the entire hotel. ||||Overall, the hotel had good and bad points. Great location and breakfast, spacious but old rooms. The prices are reasonable (and you get a discount just by enrolling in their loyalty program), so if you want to stay in the center without spending too much, and don't mind the age of the rooms,...
