Hanaya Sushi — Restaurant in Municipality of Thessaloniki

I physically arrived a few hours earlier(Of course,I read the recommendations before we decided to go to the restaurant, and there was only one bad recommendation, and in retrospect, that was definitely the most accurate negative recommendation.) to make a reservation at the restaurant to sit outside. I emphasized several times that there were six of us and that we wanted to sit only outside! In fact, they seated us inside and apologized that they could not give us a seat outside, so with a terrible feeling and especially because we were hungry, we agreed.....and yet I must say honestly and fairly: All the chicken, beef and shrimp noodle dishes were very, very small, insultingly small, only 4 shrimp in a shrimp noodle dish, very small, almost invisible pieces of beef and chicken, and especially to note that all the dishes tasted exactly the same! Full of teriyaki and soy.....nothing special about any dish! The prices are definitely expensive and the dish is not generous at all, there was noodles and very little chicken and beef in it, and it felt too stingy! We ordered sushi that was delicious but very small. I would not go back and cannot recommend...

We were 4 people at the restaurant, 2 adults and a 15 and 13 year old boys. Each ordered 2 dishes. The starters were fine but the main courses didn't meet our expectations of such a restaurant mainly because 2 of the ordered dishes didn't arrive at time. In fact, only when the staff started cleaning the table after about an hour we had been at the place, we understood that they forgot 2 of the courses. When we mentioned it they were surprised and after 2 minutes they brought the 2 courses which were both disgusting. As a result one of the dishes was barely eaten. When we told one of the waitresses that what happened was not right he just smiled and went away. We waited 5 more minutes to see if anything would be done to change our feelings but no one even bothered to come talk with us. As a result our 15 year old son, who ordered that dish, left the restaurant hungry. We didn't get any apology, any compensation and paid for all the courses as ordered.

Sadly we recommend you to avoid going to this restaurant if you wish to save yourself from...

A really nice take on japanese cuisine :) In general the food and drinks are on a high standard, especially if you compare it to other restaurants of this kind in greece. There are only minor things to criticise: The duck was really dry and also the presentation does not deliver japanese cuisine in any way. The popcorn shrimps are already tossed in mayo: 1st: this makes it hard to eat with chopsticks, because it slips off really easily 2nd: Tempura batter is supposed to be crispy and the moment you soak it in liquid you take a lot of happiness away. So better serve the sauce aside and enjoy the crispiness :) Sushi is on high quality. I would recommend to increase the ratio of fish/rice because sushi is more about fish, than rice, but if its the calculation that’s deciding than its ok ;) If you brush the Nigiris with Soy on top before serving it would give it a lot more Flavour and complexity ;) I hope next time you will have the sake available :) Best regards and see...
