We arrived in Santorini on the ferry and the staff here offered to pick us up from the port, without disclosing a price (we figured that this service could easily be free since it was a 10-minute drive). Once we got there they expected us to pay 25 euros for the van ride for the two of us and our two suitcases. We reluctantly paid and the hotel manager began a very enthusiastic explanation of the island, which ended up being helpful. He explained that there was breakfast in the bar every morning and "greek breakfast available at extra charge". The room itself was very clean and beautiful. The major problem was there was construction outside of our room every morning for the 5 days we stayed there (they were just supposed to be installing glass, but there was lots of loud banging and drilling and our patio never ended up having glass installed while we were there). The maids came every day and cleaned, but also rearranged our things on the bed and in the bathroom constantly. We would come back to our toothbrushes shoved against the counter and our lotions stacked on top of hair products stacked on top of floss and it just looked like Jenga. They also wrapped up my phone charger and hair straightener the first 2 days until I started hiding them (it was just unnecessary and makes the cords break easier). Another downside is that there was no conditioner and the body wash and shampoo are the same formula. Going on, one of the days we rented an ATV for a good price from the hotel. They told us we had to return it with 1/3 tank left of gas and we agreed. That night we had to park it across the street which is not connected to the hotel at all per their instructions. We left it with 3/4 a tank and when we got up to ride it again the next morning it had none. I don't know if the gas was stolen or if their machines were leaking, but we had to deal with getting gas which took an extra hour on foot and was absolutely ridiculous, but we got over it. The night before we left we got back from the grocery store and I set down a liter-sized water bottle on the counter in the room. The counter is uneven stone that has a small glass plate on top of it. The weight of the water bottle shattered the glass. The piece must have been insanely fragile and was placed over an uneven surface to begin with. So, the whole night we had to walk around glass as the reception closed at 9 or 10 every night and there obviously wasn't cleaning supplies. The reception was less than helpful the whole trip anyway. We wanted late night food suggestions and they shrugged and said they didn't know. The stores close early and walking to town is a good 15 minutes from this hotel so we were a bit upset when they were so dismissive. Anyway, we explained what had happened with the glass the next day and an unmarked employee entered our room to clean it up while we were changing. After that we checked out and the hotel manager told us not to worry about being charged for the glass. However, we did owe money for the breakfast we ate 3 days in a row. This is where the problems really started. Inside of the room, there was a sign that said "breakfast is served from 9-12 and Greek breakfast is available for 7 euros" and he had also told us the same thing. So, the days that we got up early we swung into the bar to have a hard-boiled egg and Neapolitan croissant (there was also coffee, one type of cereal, old oranges and some other pastries) not knowing that we were being charged 7 euros EACH TIME. Even if we had known that we were being charged (which they never mentioned before checkout) the selection and quality of the food was NO WHERE near 7 euros worth. We had no choice but to pay it, but we felt completely scammed. We returned home and I was adamant about checking the credit card to see if we were charged for the broken glass and sure enough they charged us $88.81 for a piece of 1ft x 1.5ft glass. I emailed them twice to dispute it since we had so many troubles and they...
Read moreBeautiful hotel in a quite location of Thera yet minutes away from the town centre by foot!
We requested a pick up from the port and was picked up in one of their own vehicles (unlike quite a few other hotels who send taxis) check in was straight forward and we were shown some points of interest on the map by the friendly receptionist.
Our room was spacious with a comfortable bed and had great bathroom with a stone walk in shower.
Our veranda was nice too except for the fact it was the first room on the right walking into hotel after reception area so had lots of traffic. You have some really great views from the main pool area across the sea.
We tried out their in-house restaurant the Katsaboo on the first night which is really good.
The breakfast was good and had a great selection but no table settings are available as you have pickup your own cutlery and pick your own seat.
Being Greek we often have greek coffee or a frappe for breakfast instead of filter coffee, expresso, cappuccino etc I asked for a greek coffee and was advised it’s not included in the breakfast, so I told him to charge it to my room he replied they can’t I would need to pay for it, I said “I’ve come down for breakfast in my shorts & t shirt, my cash is in the room what should I do ?? He just shrugged his shoulders!! Settled for a filter coffee instead (Having just visited 5 different hotels on our 5 island hoping vacation in the Cyclades this was the only hotel that greek coffee wasn’t included for breakfast)
Also note Breakfast finishes at 10am (which is pretty early tbh) but on our last day we turned up at 09.50 and there was very limited food available so by the time we poured our coffee & milk, grabbed the sugar, cutlery etc and placed them on the table going back to the hot food section there was no eggs, bacon along with even less availability of other items. We asked the guys behind the counter and one of them advised us they close at 10, I said “but it’s still 09.55, to which he replied “once it’s gone it’s gone’ (being fluent in greek myself I answered back in greek ‘it’s 5 minutes to 10, you’ve run out of most of the breakfast items and you’re telling me you close at 10am where is the logic”. upon being heard by the other kind gentleman behind the bar, he took charge and 7-8 mins later he brought to our table a plate consisting of 3 eggs and 6 pieces of bacon (great, but think he was taking the piss with the qty slightly).
Overall though, We would most certainly return as the hotel itself is stunning and did have some real...
Read moreIt’s a nice property with excellent swimming facilities and suites were in decent size with all facilities. The poolside bar and restaurant were excellent. It’s 15 minutes walking distance to downtown and bus stoppage; a very convenient location.
However, the check-in experience wasn’t pleasant. Despite 100% advance payment, I was asked to provide my credit card information as a “security deposit.” I thought it might be a pre-authorized process through a secured typical credit card machine. But, I was shocked once I saw the receptionist copying the front and back sides of my credit card!
Once I asked her why she was copying my credit card information, she said that I wasn’t allowed to be checked in without a copy of my card! Even she did copy my passport despite providing all required information in writing! That’s a big privacy concern for me in one of the EU countries. The property management made those copies without my consent, putting me in a complicated situation.
Now, I should share my scary experiences with their €40+€40 = €80 shuttle services and €200 Jeep experience in 4 hours. The same driver was there on all 3 trips, Mr. George. During the driving, he frequently texted, talked over the phone, and even made video calls! All of those he did once he was driving!! Last but not least, the driver almost threw us with our luggage at an inconvenient place near the ferry port during the drop-off service because it seemed like he was in a rush.
Also, they didn’t change the beddings during multiple nights’ stay during room makeup! It was hard to believe such a beautiful property did that to optimize some laundry costs!
In conclusion, despite the beautiful property and facilities, the poor hospitality services are...
