Please note The Poor rating is for the Krokos Studio only||||We stayed in three properties on our seven day stay here, not ideal on a romantic anniversary trip.||||Upgraded on First night / Nefeli Homes / Excellent||Second / Third night / Krokos studio / Poor||Our Remaining Four nights in Villa Rinio / Excellent||||We booked a Krokos Studio for our 20th wedding anniversary and stayed in September 2019,on arrival reception staff noted our anniversary and we were given an upgrade to 'Nefeli Homes', this was only for the first night, we were concerned that we would be living out of our suitcases for the first 24 hours but hey its an upgrade. Nefeli was a definite treat, peaceful, quiet, clean, very stylish and modern with stunning views, next day we were moved to Krokos Studio's which was the exact opposite , OMG what a come down, it seems Krokos owners have several properties using the Krokos label and this one was directly under the "Anastasi Church", looking neglected and Untidy in places, Painted in an Unattractive Beige/Brown colour when every other property is neatly white washed, obviously in need of a re-paint / re-style, we were shown to our studio which was a huge letdown considering how much we had paid for a weeks stay, The studio and surrounding area was poorly maintained, cramped and small with broken fixtures and fittings, windows wouldnt lock properly, work surfaces had become damp and rotted away in places, Shower and bathroom were minute in size...There was only ONE saving grace and that was the stunning views from the terrace, After looking a little closer at the terraces, garden area and flowerbeds we noticed lots of litter, cigarette ends ,water bottles, some old worn out parasols, tables and chairs were thrown behind the shrubbed area and a few of the other terraces were very untidy. Now you dont have to be a brain surgeon to work out that some proprietors do take advantage of the stunning views, You could sleep on the pathway along the cliff edge and wake up to a stunning view of the Caldera for free, but we had paid good money...after complaining we were eventually offered another studio which was on the terrace above ours which was also not satisfactory, after three sleeping nights out of our seven we were offered another property , The very helpful reception staff asked if we would like to move to another property and showed us Villa Rinio, we agreed and it was great news.||Villa Rinio is Modern, Comfortable, Stylish but small, Immaculately kept and Private balcony with stunning views with breakfast served everyday by The Brilliant "Vladimir", Our rating for Villa Rinio would be excellent, The Poor rating was for the Krokos Studio Only which is not up to standard.||The staff were very helpful in dealing with our complaint, we would stay again in Villa Rinio and we would recommend it but we would advise to check your room location on booking, The Standard studio we would...
Read moreOur room and location exceeded expectations. The view outside our window was heaven. Faye, the hotelier, was incredibly helpful and gave excellent recommendations for dinners, excursion packages, and assistance on logistics when departing. She really took her time with each guest and was incredibly caring. ||The hotel room was very clean and refreshed daily, as well as their entire property. All of the staff was very friendly and quick to help with bags or escorting us so we wouldn’t get lost. Breakfasts were served directly to our room each morning and they were very delicious with lots of options. We enjoyed the locations for several reasons. The view was beautiful, lots of shops and restaurants nearby, lots of sunset locations, all of which were peaceful and free from the chaos of other locations. And the ambiance was rich. We enjoyed listening to distant live music from our private-outdoor balcony at night. Sometimes it would be quiet piano playing, or singing. Nothing ever too loud, and the rooms were silent. A very peaceful location and hotel. We also enjoyed using the plunge pool. It was a nice way to cool off at the end of a day of sightseeing, before heading off to dinner.||She helped us arrange a catamaran afternoon excursion that ended in a sunset cruise with a beautiful view of the sunset. There were only 16 passengers on the sailboat total, and they were all really nice and friendly. And we enjoyed the chance to stop and swim at so many different spots around the caldera, including the hot springs. Lunch was delicious, and as vegetarians, we appreciated they offering vegetarian options. We also got to see the pink and white beaches, which we would not have been able to see, otherwise. We also got to see the big black rock and other things that can only be seen from the water.||Faye also gave us a few recommendations for our first sunset dinner. One of her top pics for us was the White Lounge. We read reviews online, which said the views were great, but the food wasn’t. But we went with it knowing everything is expensive in Santorini, and also, you are paying for the view, especially at sunset. It was the perfect choice for our first sunset in Santorini. This restaurant really has an ideal set-up with so many different spots for all their guests to view the sunset without people obscuring it. The food was also pretty good (again, we are vegetarians and understand we always have limited options) and the staff was very friendly. I especially appreciated the waitress bringing everyone blankets after sunset as it suddenly...
Read moreWhen visiting Santorini you're most likely going for the caldera view and not the beaches. Then you have to pick one of the locations along the caldera, Fira, Oia etc. Unless you plan on getting a car don't stray too far from Fira as it has the central bus station. We stayed at the Gorgona Villas in Imerovigli. Their villas are of the cave variety set back into the cliff walls overlooking the caldera. Each morning, weather permitting you can enjoy a well presented, hand delivered breakfast on your balcony or terrace. You can pick the day before from various breakfast options. It is a great place to chill, relax and take breakfast enjoying the view over looking one of natures most destructive and now dormant volcanoes. The staff at the villas are excellent both the day and night managers are amazing at making you feel welcome and there is a real family vibe about the place. They do make you feel like as a guest you are the only one there. Be aware that the villas like most of the accommodations are down some winding steps that are not all the same hight or consistently well lit. This should not put your off a great experience, just avoid wearing high heels and take care in the late evenings. Within a few 100ms of the villas is a supermarket called Jimmy's at which you can get milk, water maybe some wine. For eating in the evenings I can recommend "Let's eat Gyros" for geat Gyros and more snack type food. If you want some traditional Greek food then try "Mama Lena". We visited multiple time to both and had great service and good food at reasonable prices. On a last note, May is only just in season. We wanted to avoid the cruise crowds and really hot weather. Most days it was blue skies mid 70's, with some cloudy wet or windy days. We went 3rd of May to 10th. Santorini was amazing (need no more than a week) and Gorgona Villas a real find, great view, friendly people and overall...
