I had Nomikos arrange a transfer from the airport for me as I heard that finding places on the Caldera cliff is like a maze - luckily I did.
When I got to the closest point on the road to Nomikos, I was met by the handyman who seems to do everything at the hotel: from repairs, cleaning of the pool, bringing the breakfast up and bringing the luggage to the hotel.
When I walked alongside the Caldera I was amazed by the view. I didn’t expect it to look like what it did. It was awash of whitewashed buildings.
When I got to the hotel, there was no rush to check in. It was very informal and relaxed. Just sat next to the pool and spoke about the routines, what breakfast you wanted and ideas about what to do around Santorini. Now I didn’t know this but this hotel must be owned by a company that has a lot of fingers in a lot of pies ie from hotels, rental cars, tours and sailings.
I got to the room and I was amazed as it was just what I wanted. It isn’t luxurious as I only get a room just for a room to sleep but this is more than that. The bathroom is basic but that’s all you want.
The bed is on a mezzanine level. The handrail is very wobbly and I found it difficult to go down the stairs because of the angle of the stairs and I had to walk down bow legged. This wasn’t a problem for me but for older visitors it might be a problem.
The balcony where I would be having breakfast had an amazing view. Beautiful. You choose what breakfast you want. If you want to change, you need to inform the desk. I had tea, orange juice, Greek yoghurt and bread. I just wished you had the option of having a Greek breakfast.
The pool was quite small but of a good standard. You have four sunloungers - not enough but there isn’t enough space. Here you can order drinks. The hot tub was out of action due to Covid restrictions.
I managed to arrange a rental car for €30 a day. The car was delivered - all the formalities were sorted out at the hotel. You need one to go to the other sites on the island and you wanted to social distance yourself which you can’t on the bus or coaches on tours. I also arranged a catamaran sunset tour where you had opportunities to swim in the sea and look at different landmarks around the island. This hotel is a one stop shop.
I would recommend this hotel if you do not want to stay in the middle of Fira. Fira is only a 15 minute walk along the Caldera trail and it...
Read moreOur apartment was right by the pool and bar. It was an unusual room layout with a huge area at the front with 2 beds/lounges, dining table and mini fridge with a separate section that had the main bedroom and cave bathroom. ||Room was clean - I would say the room is furnished "comfortably". ||The real drawcard here is the location and the caldera view. The villas are in a quiet location, whilst a few min walk will take you up to the main pedestrian street that takes you into Thira or Imerovigli depending upon which way you turn. The view from the pool terrace is a million $ view over the caldera - I never got tired of seeing that.||The staff are super friendly and nothing is too much trouble - Gigga and Andrea are 2 to call out. Gigga met our transfer on the road & hoisted our suitcases on his shoulders on our arrival and did the same on our departure.||Late check out of noon was also appreciated as our ferry was not until later in the afternoon - we were able to relax by the pool, and then have a quick shower and change using the facilities at the pool.||The cave shower could do with some improvement - the water did not drain as it should, so you ended up in ankle deep water and a shelf for soap/shampoo etc would also be a...
Read moreI have stayed at Nomikos at the end of June 2022 with my husband and our two teenage daughters. We had an apartment right by the pool and the bar. It was a good option for us as I wanted a place with the perfect view and all the other options were more expensive. The apartment was nice, spacious and comfortable. The bathroom was cave style. The only thing that I would add would be rack where one can hang the beach towels and swimwear to dry. Breakfast was served by the pool and it was plenty. The location was good. 15 mins walk from the centre of Fira. A nice panoramic walk - take good walking shoes and forget heels. 15 mins walk also to Imerovigli, but the walk is not always panoramic. Nomikos Villas was a great stay for us, always clean and the staff is very kind. It was nice to enjoy a dip in the pool at the end of the day and the view whilst being in the jacuzzi is unique. I really...
