This is a very special place. Thank you to Kelly and her team for providing a most memorable birthday stay. This is a great team of warm capable people who genuinely care about you and your stay.
We spent 4 nights at Mill House Suites and would gladly have spent more time there. Intimately nested within the caldera, this small boutique facility provides a comforting rustic bohemian type charm. We stayed in both the studio room as well as the honeymoon suite with hot tub overlooking the caldera. The studio is cozy and provides plenty of room for 2. The honeymoon suite with hot tub is worth the up charge as it provides plenty of room for you to unpack (the things that you didn't need to bring). Sitting in your private hot tub, watching the sunset, as you sip your favorite cocktail is a much more palatable experience than hanging with the crowd in Oia. The HVAC system works well as does the WIFI. Nespresso in the room too. Like all of the other facilities in the caldera, there's a lot of exposure to walking up/down stairs so wear appropriate shoes.
Andrea knows when you are arriving and will carry your luggage ... not a small task. He has other special senses as he knows when you're ready for breakfast or in need of more coffee. He delivers your Greek / American continental breakfast to your patio table overlooking the sunrise. It's plenty of healthy food ... get used to it. The orange juice must be freshly squeezed as its just full of wonderful pulp.
My communication with property manager Kelly started before our stay. She provided great suggestions regarding excursions, restaurant reservations, and car rental. She scheduled everything. She makes herself directly available via Whats App. She reserved the best table overlooking the Aegean at Giorgaros Taverna in Akrotiri. We were greeted by the owner as if we were old friends ... all thanks to Kelly.
We believe that Firostefani is a better stay location than Fira or Oia as it's quieter. Fira is a 15 minute walk and Oia is reachable by bus or car. Skaros Rock is 20 minutes away and certainly worth the hike ... just magnificent.
The Mill House Suites is a very special place ... quality people providing outstanding service in one of the most beautiful places...
Read moreThis hotel has some things going for it, mainly the spectacular views over the caldera. But I suspect the 5 star reviews are from guests who stayed in the rooms by the pool or just above it. We were walked up over 100 stairs away from the main hotel, down the street then up some different stairs, and there we were shown our room. It was outdated and not like the beautiful modern, light-filled ones shown on the website. They have 3 completely separate rooms away from the main hotel (rooms 111 - 113), which don't have their own outdoor space, you share a long balcony with the other 2 rooms, and the view from there is partially blocked by the roofs below. The bathroom was dingy and there was a tiny shower with a plastic curtain which stuck to you as you showered. The air conditioning sounded like a jet engine about to take off. Every time you wanted to go to the pool or reception, or to breakfast, you had to climb down the hundreds of stairs and back up again, so being poolside was not a particularly relaxing experience. The pool is very small and there are only 4 sunbeds so you are lucky if you get one. This hotel was booked as part of a package so am not too sure of price per night but if the Internet is to be believed, it was way way overpriced at over €300 per night. On the plus side, the staff are just wonderful, especially Angelina and Pilot who never stop smiling and help you with everything so graciously. Breakfast is fine, some basic options which you select from a checklist, but you can have as much as you want. Could be better for a 4 star hotel. The small town the hotel is in is quite nice with a few restaurants and it's about 15 minutes walk to the start of the main town Thira. Take comfortable shoes, it's very cobbled. We felt a bit swindled and advise other guests to check which room they'll be in...
Read moreI stayed in this hotel for a week at the beginning of June 2024. The welcome is exceptional, a cold welcome drink and above all a courageous man who carried our 20 kg suitcase for us all along the 145 steps (we counted them) which lead to the hotel. The view for breakfast is breathtaking, you will never get tired of it. The staff is warm and attentive to your every request. On the other hand, a few small points could really be improved for a hotel of this standard: Tap water is not drinkable in Santorini, everyone knows that, it was not a surprise, the hotel also informed us of this upon our arrival. However, in this case, hotels provide free bottled water daily. Except this hotel which will charge you for each bottle of water (except the very first and 1.5 liters of water for a week, that's really too little...). The hotel provides Nespresso coffee makers with 2 capsules in the rooms. But if you use them, they will not be renewed, you must request it and you will be charged for it.
These are small details that don't cost much, I'm talking about them in principle, the few euros it cost me at the end of the stay are not important. But for a hotel that aims to be of high standard, this lowers the hotel's rating.
Also pay attention to the small trapdoor near the swimming pool which shows signs of fatigue, do not step on it, you risk falling through.
For everything else, the hotel is truly incredible, the view, the quality of the rooms, the silence of the place, everything comes together here for an excellent and...
